I think anyone that can consistantly kill a deer with a bow is a skillfull hunter to some degree. Period!!
I figured out my first buck this year with much scouting, talking with other people on the farm and game camera's. I had a bow shot and choked (didn't release the arrow). IMO he was a buck of a lifetime, he was shot a week later on a deer drive by landowners daughter about 100 yds from my stand.. I didn't get him but I figured him out and that to me meant alot as far as considering myself a "hunter".. I have shot nice deer before but it was just right place and right time. Only one P&Y about six years ago.. But six deer this year, 5 does and 1 small buck.. 5 bow and 1 handgun..
So my answer is NO.. P&Y does not prove much of anything.. I know a guy last year that shot a B&C running with his rifle.. Pulled it out of his you know what, he is the farthest thing I know from a skilled hunter.. lol There are guys that are just plain good and lucky and some that put in the time.. Some with more money or better land, some bait, some drive, some hunt public and some hunt ranches.. Alot of folks just dont have the time to hunt and scout the way some of us would like too.
So anyway, if ya don't have any monsters on the wall don't think your not skilled cuz there is more to it than that. Enjoy and embrace hunting, nothing gets my blood pumping like a whitetail walking under my stand. Even Does!!!
I have a big twelve pointer that I've seen that made it through the season, I'll let you guys know next year if I'm skilled enough to get him..
