I also lived in Chula Vista, Ca. for awhile (24 years to be exact). I found it easier to plan hunting/family visiting back here in Pa. A friend was going to take me bow hunting pigs near San Luis Obispo but everything was posted at that time and the outfitters had it locked up. I drove 165 miles one way to hunt pheasants in Imperial Valley.
I don' t think mechanical broadheads have any advantage over fixed blades on Laguna. The deer are scarce and that is the real issue.
