here in nc if a power line or rail road runs thru or near your property you dont own that land the rail or power co. does.
I hunt gamelands and it is close (100 to 200 yds away)to private property if i shoot one on gamelands and it goes back to the private land i have the right to retrieve that animal as well as that is my duty to finish what i started
Here in ny, you still own the land - the company has a right of way and cannot grant rights of trespass.
You cannot go on private land without permission for any reason including game recovery.
Every state is different - don't know of any that allow you to shoot across property lines and then recover.

steve,same here in pa.
my cousin OWNS pipeline here near his property,he even put a fence accross it with gate.
he gave key to the gas co/electric co. they have RIGHT OF WAY ONLY.
as for getting permiision you MUST have WRITTEN PERMISSION to go on private property here in pa.
if you put a treestand up on PRIVATELAND,you must have WRIITEN PERMISSION to put it up and a WCO can come into privateproperty and arrest you EVEN if you had VERBAL permission to be there.
if tree is damaged on PRIVATELAND from tree steps/climber/little screws to hold your gun/cutting off limbs, a WCO can come into property and arrest you for damaging tree UNLESS the landowner gave you WRIITEN PERMISSION to damage tree..
if WCO comes in and you dont haveWRIITEN PERMISSION to be there or to damage a tree,he can arrest you and fine will be over 500 dollars ..
getting theWRIITEN PERMISSION later will not help get rid of violation, you MUST have it in writing at time of offense..
i think its TITLE 34 in rule book.........
