QUESTION FOR ZIM
This may seem stupid but its something I have seriously thought about.
How do you get your deer out when hunting public land? I have hunted some public land and it seems that getting one down in some locations would be a long drag.
Adeer cart does the trick if you have a navigable route back. Also, call a friend if possible. Like I did in the photo. It's my buddy Jim Cantu who hasn't been able to hunt in 2 years due to his wife's school. This was my Oct. 3rd public land buck. Had to cart him about 1/2 mile. Last year it was 4 miles. That was tough. My hamstrings were tight as piano strings. Luckily I enjoy the challenge of getting them out.

My 2nd buck was much tougher. Shot him in central Illinoisin rough terrain. Carted him 1/4 mile, but when I got to the creek I was done. Had to get him up an 8' bank, so I went for help in the opposite parking area. Three guys teamed up to help horse him out of there. Not possible without the help. However, last year ILDNR legalized quartering your deer if you had him called in to the electronic check-in. So if you have a backpack it's no problem anymore. That is what I will do next year.
