RE: stupid question how do you gain points?
Some states have preference point system that gives you a point each time you are unsuccessful for a draw. Different states do it differently, for instance:
Montana and Arizona have a bonus point system. For each bonus point you have, the computer will put your name another time for the draw.
Colorado has a preference point system which gets your application weighted more heavily for each point you accumulate. Colorado and Arizona, and perhaps some of the other states will allow you to put in for a point. There is usually a fee and you typically have to front the application fee which gets refunded after the draw. If you play your cards right, you can draw points and set yourself up with a good quality hunt most every year. In the years that I don' t have the points to draw a good bull tag, I usually draw a cow tag just so that I can get out and hunt.
If you are going to draw any tags this year you should get started. Deadline for Montana is next week. Deadline for Colorado is first part of April.
Good luck!
