...I am not an elk hunter but wouldn't the 25-06 be as capable as say a bow? Of coarse reasonable ranges considered for both weapons.
At the same ranges, with the same shot angles - absolutely. However, bow-toters go into the woods
knowing full well that they'll have to get
really close, & get a
really good shot angle. If one carried a .25-06 on an elk hunt with that same mind-set, there wouldn't be nearly as much debate here.
As it is, however, the original poster asked about usingthiscartridge at up to 600 yards. Not the same thing, and not a good idea.
A buddy was telling me this weekend about watching a TVprogram that showed some idiot bowhunting an elephant. I can't fathom such lunacy, but, in the words of Dave Ramsey, "stupid's not a crime".
I'm not saying that bows or quarterbore cartridges won't kill an elk. I'm saying there's far more appropriate equipment out there, and that both hunter & quarry would be much better served by its employ.
