Anything like the 6mm Remington, 6mm/284, .257 Roberts, .260 Remington, 6.5X55, 6.5 X57,6.5X284, 7mm/'08, 7X57mm Mauser, .25/'06, .270 Win., or .280 Remington will do the job with less blast & recoil than the .30/'06. If fact, the smaller 6.5mm rounds, like the 6.5X55mm, although not nearly as popular here as they are in Europe, are among the very best for deer-size game.
