I also have had a deer that I never found. I was shooting a .270 and the deer was about 130 yards away. I shot him and he just stood there, so I shot again and he just stood there, so I shot again. He took off running and ran out of sight in some woods. My dad and I walked up to where he had been standing and found two huge patches of blood on the ground. I had hit him twice out of the three shots and there was a huge blood trail where he had run off. We started following the blood trail right away because it was a snowing with a pretty good wind and we knew that the blood trail would disappear before long. Well, we got to the woods and got out of the wind and the blood trail just started petering out and finally just quit. I bet we looked in that woods for over 2 hours before we finally had to give up. We never did find that deer.I have no idea whay he didn't die, but he didn't. It happens to everyone now and then.
