I shot a little doe yesterday at about 20 yds. I was using 100 grains triple7 and 145 grain powerbelts. After i shot i could not believe, but deer ran off. Went over and found blood and tracked it about 200 yds before finding her. My shot was right above from shoulder, no exit. It appears bullet disintegrated. The little green tip, I found near its butthole.
I do want to change bullets because my gun shoots them real accurate, but don't do any good if you are losing deer.
Shoulder shots with PB are a NO NO. Go to a stronger bullet, like Gold Dots or Nosler Partitions or Barnes TMZ/MZ or a SW. A small doe at 20 yards should be a boom flop, not a boom no recovery. I don't think I have ever heard of a 145g PB, that is a pretty light ML bullet.
