Default RE: Campbell's Challenge Day One

Bwaahahahaa...

Justin is still making a copy of the video he took. I was the shooter today.

You can enter 1 buck and 1 doe, or2does and 0 bucksfor this competition. Part of the score is for the deer (antler inches on bucks and weight on does) A big part of the score is the the footage and interviews.

I basically suck at being in front of the camera, Justin is Mr. Smooth. I hope I'm better behind the camera than I am in front of it.

This morning it was raining for most of our hunt. We saw two dinky deer which walked right up to the stand. That was pretty much it.

Afterwards we hung some of our stands on different ends of the property. For the afternoon hunt we went to one of the spots where we hung stands. Within 15 minutes we started seeing deer. We had a big doe with a bad foot come in. I drew on her when she was at 10 yards. She was hard quartering towards me. Then she noticed us. She walked a bit closer... stared... then kind of spun and walked off. Never giving me a good shot. It felt like I was holding that bow back for a million years.

Anyhow, then some 1.5 year old bucks came in. Hung around for awhile. Then five does and fawns walk right by the stand. I draw. They came straight in (downwind) and then passed nearly underneath us and walked straight away. [:@]

I let the bow down again.

Then one of the does come back.

She stopsgiving me a really pretty broadsideviewand I draw again. By now I can hardly pull my bow back. (I can barely pull it back on a good day.) She catches some movement and jumps two bounds. Stops, looks back and wham. Arrow through the chest. She makes it 40 yards and plops over. Yay team!

Justin got pretty good footage. He's slick with the camera. She was behind some leaves when she stopped but otherwise it looks good.

Next it's Justin's turn. He needs to bring in a buck 130" or better. (or a 300 lb doe)

Out of 14 teams, two does have been taken so far. Several teams have seen some nice bucks but haven't been able to put a tag on one.

There you go. We'll get some pictures on soon but we really need some sleep. It's been a long day.
