RE: 270WSM Handloads
I bought my 270WSM when they first came out and reloading data was hard to find. We had to interprolate between what loads we could find.
My gun is a Winchester Model 70 with a 24" barrel. But I've also loaded for a friends Browning Hunter with a 23" barrel.
I tried 130, 140, and 150 grain bullets. I tried Hornady SST in 130g. Nosler BST in 130 & 140, Nosler Partitions in 140g & 150g.
Kodiak Bonded in 150g and Barnes 140g TSX.
I stuck with the Barnes 140g TSX. In my gun they were as fast as the most of the 130g bullets with the added punch of a 140g.
The 150g dropped in velocity quite a bit over the 140g. When playing with the balistic software I found the 140g had more down range energy than the 150g because they started so much faster.
But you didn't ask about 140.
So here what I found when I played with 150g bullets
These ARE ALL MAX LOADS. Work up to them.
Federal Factory 150g Partition 3184fps
Hornady SP H4350 56.5g WLRM 2978 fps -From Hornady Website
Hornady SP H4831SC 60g WLRM 2962fps - From Hornady Website
Nosler Partition H4831SC 60g WLRM 2942fps
Nosler Partition MagPro 70g WLRM 3100 fps
Kodiak Bonded MagPro 70g WLRM 3100
Speer SP Retumbo 70g WLRM 3136 - From Speer Website
Winchester Factory 150g Powerpoint 3057 fps
If I had to choose a 150g load it would be either 70grains of MagPro or 70 Grains of Retumbo.
