i,m going to also agree with your buds,rim fire 22' s are marginal at best on coyotes.i shoot a 243 becouse its all i have,but if some day i decide to buy a rifle for just fox and coyote it will be the either the 22-250 or the 223.most likly the 223 for most shots around new york are under 200 yards.
