I used to do this when I first started hunting. Seen many deer this way. Missed them [:@]. Then I started living in the trees. I'm starting to come down from the trees again and wander around. I enjoy it. Go slow. The creek will cover your noise but will cover theirs too. You also don't have any cover to hide behind but you are usually below the rest of the terrain. Look for deer bedded next to the creek, especially in tall weeds.
