The first deer that I took with a bow was a buck, with a low poundage bow. I hithigh on a broadside shot without a pass-through/exit hole. Followed the path he took and only found one drop of blood about the size of a nickel, found him the next day, he had bled internally. Sounds like that may be your case. If able I'd go look some more.
