You only have to make one person happy. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I've passed deer 4 or 5 tims only to decide some day..."You're going to die today". And you say it's all about the horns. For me it's not... it really isn't. Oh I pass up a lot of small buck because I want to see what shows up later or tomorrow or next week. I don't measure horns or mount deer anymore. I just hunt for me. It's suppose to be fun. If it's not, you're doing something wrong. Not wrong by my rules but wrong by your own. If someone says he isn't shooting anything less than Pope and Young he can't really complain about a bust season. He set his goals and didin't achieve them. It's not the hunting God's that did him in.. it was his own standards. Aim to succeed no matter the path you choose.
That's gospel right there, boys.
Mauser......ONLY thing I'd caution you on is this.....
When I "passed" on several small-ish bucks....waiting for the "one".....and that "one" came along.....I was in NO mental shape to take him. I NOW wish I had taken "a" deer with my bow to gain the confidence it takes to follow through with a plan. Believe me, Cap'n......confidence (having it) is HUGE!
"I" won't tell "you" what you should do......but.....if you have a doe tag....and an opportunity....play the scneario out in your mind like it's "your" buck.....and "maybe" get that much needed confidence under your belt. It doesn't even need to be in the area you're hunting these dandies......but the confidence gained by ensuring to yourself that you can follow through on everything that has to happen.....can aid you a LOT.
Just my .02, buddy. You'll know when it's right.....and you'll come through for YOURSELF.
good luck!
