RE: Canadians hunting deer in Alberta
As far as the hunter host for whitetails in alberta, that has long been a sore spot for Sask. guys. B/C here you can just go on your own in the Canadian Resident Seasons. Many guys have been p'd about guys jumping our border to hunt on their own in large groups, but not been afforded the same opportuntity. So I agree it should be the same across the board, either way. However Sask. DNR through opposition has limited the non-resident season in recent years to only 1-week for central & southern WMZ's. The northern season is the same for residents, canadians and non-resident hunters for whitetail deer (however only saskatchewan residents can harvest does if applicable, all others is 1 either-sex whitetail tag)
As to the non-resident thing, I think it is to weed out the not so honest "NOT FOR PROFIT" guys. How would the wildlife department know if these people are friends, family or even not paying. I know of one such outfitter in Sask. that had land up north but guided his guys in non-outfitting area, his clients knew the score and were all to willing to keep Mum. This went on for a number of seasons even after the DNR were notified about his practices, finally they caught him and he recvd a 2 year suspension of outfitting and hunting rights...he is now back in business. So yes it can and does happen. In sask. non-residents of canada can only hunt with a licensed outfitter in their determined area. So they must pay for the service.(this is only in northern locations or indian reserves that have outfitting business). This is for whitetail deer & bear.
