Default RE: .308 or .270?

As far as the 308 being a better brush gun it really depends more on the bullet you choose. With both shooting the same weight bullet they are pretty close to the same velocities. You can get a few heavier bullets with the 308, but they are still pretty fast. You could still deflect off a branch or something and depending on the bullet choice it could actually ruin the bullet or explode before reaching your game.

A true brush gun would be more along the lines of a 30-30 with a heavy solid bullet, or anything above 40 cal with a heavy slow moving bullet. Like a 45-70 or a slug gun.

At any rate it is ill advised to intentionally shoot through brush with any weapon. The term brush gun is not intended to mean that it will cut through brush. This is poor sportsmanship and not very smart. The term comes from areas with lots of cover where your shots will come close and fast. Hence large bore lever guns or pump action slug guns being considered brush guns. They handle and point well while performing very well at close distances.

I can only hope that you are at least learning a lot by as much as you get corrected here.

As far as my comments about the browning vrs ruger it is simply my opinion, but my opinion is that a browning A-bolt is twice the gun a run of the mill ruger bolt action is. If I were looking at new bolt actions to purchase the ruger guns would be at the bottom of the list. That new cheap remignton would be at the very bottom. I would get a break action rossy before that thing. Again, just my opinion.
