I have killed many deer, mainly muleys, antelope and an elk, with my .30-06. If you are just wanting to change it up a little bit, instead of buying a new rifle, have a gunsmith convert your .270 into a .30-06. Custom barrel, you get the .308 caliber it sounds like you want, and you will probably have a serious tackdriver, instead of just a factory produced rifle. Otherwise, can't see what the .308 will do for you, that the .270 can't.
