I haven't read all the posts, but the theme of the ones that I have read seems to be flip a coin. I agree completely.

I have killed aproximately 90 deer with a 270 and can attest that it has worked flawlessly for me on whitetails. I also have a new 308 but haven't killed anything but paper so far.

I saw someone else mention getting a new scope instead of buying a new gun, and I like that suggestion too.

For under 200 yards on whitetail deer, my favorite caliber is 30-30.
