Either will do. I have a .270win. Only rifle i've ever owned. I was thinking about buying a .308...but bought a new bow instead.
The only thing I am sittin' here wondering is why there are so many "under 200 yard" comments???!?!?!?!?!
Both of these rounds aremore than capible of taking shots beyond 200yds. Why do you think the military and law enforcement uses the .308 so much?
I hunt out west and 400 yard shots are not uncommon. 280 rem, 30-06, .270, .308, 7-08, 7 rem mag, are all considered more or less equal. 7 rem develops 250 to 400 fps above the others = a grand total of a 3" to 5" difference in drop at 400 yards when each is sighted in 4 to 4.5" high at one hundred yard. Nuff said - buy any of em, shoot em till ya hit what ya shoot at, and enjoy the rifle ya got

As I said above, I bought the .308 after long consideration. My choice was based on availability of ammunition and bullet choice.
