Default Crossing U.S./Canadian border with longarms, only to pass thru?

I just spent a little bit of time on the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol website and didn't really find what I was looking for, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience to share.

I just moved to CT and will continue to do my deer hunting in MI. According to Mapquest, the most direct route is to cross the southern arm of Ontario, crossing at Buffalo and coming back into MI at Sarnia.

My question is what are the regulations for just passing through Canada with longarms? Everything I find talks about crossing to hunt in Canada/US.

Thanks!
