and the poor guide gets absolutely no assurances whether or not the chuckle head that's showing up knows how to handle that 308 well or not. As a matter of fact more time than not the client doesn't know how to shoot. In that case I wouldn't recommend he bring a 308. I would prefer he bring a damn howitzer. but, I'm not a guide.
There is a lot of truth in that statement.
No, actually there's a lot of misdirection and naivete in that statement, if he can't handle a .308, he can't handle the howitzer and no amount of bigger makes up for better. ipscshooter got it right on.
That's why good outfitters require hunters to shoot at their range when they get into camp; so the guide knows that the client is competent.
