now what ?
This late evening i went out to do some shooting. My mountain rifle is down untill i get the new frizzen spring in, so i went and unwrapped the traditions kentucky .50 flintlock and went out with that. This rifle just isnt fun anymore. I was using a .010 patch soaked with bore butter, a home cast .490 roundball and 60 grains Triple7. First shot went off perfect but a little to the left of the bulls eye, second shot was a flash in the pan, reprimed and went it dead center into the bulls eye, 3ed and final shot went off perfect and again, right into the bulls eye. After today, im really going to start giving triple 7 the upper hand in my flintlocks. I think for target shooting i'll use triple 7 and when i go to sight in for hunting season, MAYBE use goex so i know it wont fail me in the field. I dont know for sure, but in the two flintlocks ive shot with triple 7, its been doing excellent. Im setting up a 100 yard target tomorrow and taking the traditions out again and see how it does and what charge i'll have to use to get it dead on. 4 rifles and now im really screwed and have no clue which one should get the honor of being the first out in the field.
I'll also be ordering a new vent liner for the traditions. This one is egged out badly and in need of a new one. Kind of cool though actually. After i loaded, i pulled the frizzen back and there already was powder for priming lol. Scary, yet kind of nice.
