Default RE: 209 primers

ORIGINAL: heinz57

i would like to know why we use different primers in our muzzleloaders ?? i have tried out 5 different primers [only primers] and shot 15 of them each make .[REMINGTON ,CCI,WINCHESTER , ECT.....] and had no CRUDE RING when i removed the breech plug .but as soon as i loaded up with T7 and fired the rifle i got a CRUDE RING .so i believe the 209 primer has nothing to do with the CRUDE RING ..p.s. am i missing something ????
No, you ain't missin' 'nuthin'. The crud is from the T7! The only 209 I've sworn never to use again were some Federals I had that I bought for shotgun shells. They were almost impossible to get out of the nipple I used them in (a Mag-Spark on a sidelock). Haven't had any problems at all with the Win. 209's made for use on ML rifles. Haven't tried the Remingtons.......
