I'm thinking that this is going to be a banner year for Grouse.
We had a lot of deep snow in the mountains (Grouse country) last Winter, so there were a
lot of adult breeders that made it through to breeding season. All of the good Grouse foods are blooming now -- more blossoms than I've seen for many years. Elderberries, Snow Berries etc.
Here are a couple pics that I took last evening when I had Casey out doing some 'free roading'.
Pic #1 is of Snow Berry blossoms. Snow Berries are a Grouse favorite during late Summer and early Fall.
Pic #2 is of Wild Roses. Rose Hips are a Grouse staple from Fall clear to the end of Winter.
And, yes, this
is how thick the vegetation is where we hunt Grouse.
