Intrusion treeline works as well in early season as late. Remember, the sky is always there. If leaves are still on the trees, they are blocking you just like they are blocking the sky. But again, the most important thing is to BREAK THE EDGE, which is what makes intrusion superior - larger "chunks", which doesn't "blob" up at a distance.
