Ya'll forgot to mention the Ruger!
This really is a Ford/Chevy thing! For the money, Savage is hard to beat, next comes the Winchesters and Remmingtons, then theres the Rugers, Brownings and Tikka! Pick one in your price range! As for the calibers you mentioned, I'd take the 30.06! I don't buy into the WSM and Ultra magnum craze! If the gun makers are making money and the shooters are happy, thats great! I don't see that they have produced anything that we didn't already have though, and which ones will survive the test of time!?
