I want some of that crack your smokin, you DID NOT get those kinda numbers out of a 45-70, you can throw any powder/primer combo at me you like, I don't think you got that kinda speed. That is riding on the heels of the 416 Rigby!
Not really! You must consider two major factors: The .416 Rigby (factory ammo) operates at around 35-40,000 PSI. It fires a smaller-diameter bullet than the .45/70, so presents a significantly smaller area for thegases to push against. If you load a .416 Rigby up to 50,000 CUP, like my .45/70 load, the Rigbywill achieve over 2500 FPS with the 400-grain bullet - maybe even 2600 if you use a slow enough powder.

I have no idea what the actual pressure of my load is. It does "iron out" the cases, but so far, the primer pockets HAVE REMAINED THE SAME SIZE. I have loaded a couple batches of cases five times, so the load is safe. But it sure does a number on your shoulder! No, this load is NOT for trapdoor Springfields or for Marlins either!
