Since deer season was out, last Saturday my 11 year old grandson and I went on a shoot anything trip to our deer lease. We carried shotguns and I took my old Mallardtone mouth blown crow call. We killed 10 from 1:00 pm til 4:00 pm. I would call 1 or 2 in at a time. I also placed the dead crows in the edge of our open field as decoys when we bagged one. This seemed to help. We had one live crow that was winged and he worked pretty good til he made his way to the bushes and disappeared. I am very interested in this sport as a good way to get in the woods during the off season and extend my hunting time. I am very interested in learning more techniques. I like to use high powered 6 shot. Is the regular 7.5 shot strong enough to bag them consistently. How far apart do you place the decoys? Is an owl fight or hawk fight tape the same thing? How effective is the owl decoy? Is hunting better in the AM or PM? What choke in your gun is best? Sorry for all the questions but my grandson and I want to make the most of our time afield together. All help will certainly be appreciated as I am still in the learning stage.
