BigDaddy12t checking in! Will be hunting in Southern Minnesota. Got my first bird last year, and was hooked!
|
ManofThe Fall checking in. I will be hunting Ohio. Our season really starts late this year and I can't understand why. We hunters here in Ohio have been pushing for an earlier start to the season and what do they do? They make it later yet. We start April 24th. I think by then most of the breeding is winding down. I think it's going to be a tough year.

Reporting for duty!
|
Ready to roll. Just hunting MO this year.
|
Checking in. I'll be hunting my normal public land here in Oklahoma and a short trip up to Kansas with my buddy Zmax hunter. Should be a good year but with all this warm weather they seem to be strutting kinda early here.
Still looking at a few other states to give it a shot but with school and work time and funds are limited lol. |
Bocajnala checking in. Will be hunting in PA and maybe a couple days in Ohio.
-Jake |
UTD so far! Looking forward to seeing your birds. Also good to see some old teammates too!
|
Checking in from Illinois. I hunt public land here and in Wisconsin. Already drew 3 tags at my preferred properties that have treated me well in the past. Will pick up 3 more tags in IL 4th lottery & WI leftovers March 25th. All are late season so I won't be on the board until late April. I specialize in late season over-pressured toms. I know their game and have good strategies for success.
Good luck to all. |
check in
Springspur here, will be hunting central South Carolina.
|
Only missing 3. UTD!
|
Pm's have been sent out to our last 3.
|
Just finished a couple weekends of deer scouting and saw quite a few birds at one of my IL tag public properties. Full blown gobbling/strutting display by 5 mature toms with 15 hens. Glassed them right from my parking area. There are lots of crop fields there and my strategy is to hike perimeters of the remote fields the day before my hunt, and set up over the most active dust bowls. This has worked well in the past. Likely keep running/gunning to a minimum for a 4th season tag. The toms are far too wary by then. Decoys usually spook them off but never dust bowls! I miss watching them interact with the dekes but that's the reality at the properties I hunt........with the exception on my 1st two IL hunts.
|
Yea it seems they are getting started here early as well. Been pretty dang warm the last few weeks.
I'll be in Kansas trying with the stick and string the weekend of April 8th. Then it will be all runnin and gunnin after that. I'm just gonna have the weekends to hunt thanks to going back to school. |
Checking in! I'll be hunting southern middle Tennessee, and northwest Alabama this year, and can't wait to get started! Good luck everyone!
|
Awesome Bibleman! Good to be hunting on the same team with you again!
|
Now we are just missing 2 and combined the 2 missing have a total of 4 posts. Might be a long shot to see them check in
|
Doubtful
Haven't seen a bird in 2 months, got a bad feeling about this season. usually they are out strutting by now. We'll see. On a lighter note whoever wants to step up for team Captain is fine with me. My computer skills are limited...My son gives me a hand when I need to post a picture.
|
I've been seeing birds on my trail cameras hitting the fields. Hopeful for this season. Hopefully work doesn't get too crazy and I'm able to get out!
-Jake |
free time
Luckily I just retired again so time off is not an issue, nothing to blame failure on but me for now. However I'm thinking up a whole new set of excuses to cover that!

Mick I'm at least 23 years from retirement. And depending on the state of the economy more likely 43 years lol. So I've gotta deal with that for the foreseeable future! -Jake |
I'm doing some deer scouting in Iowa right now and seeing quite a few toms out. But I won't hunt them here. Too pricey for NR's.
But did find out I drew an Arizona elk tag yesterday $650 great unit! |
|
Brian lets hope that line will be down a few in a few weeks ;)
|
Whoever wants the captains roll step on up. Lets get this thing going lol Any ideas on Team names

Taking my son to TX this weekend for youth season. Looking forwarding to hearing birds gobble. I've attached a couple pics from a camera I check yesterday. Good luck team.
|
Captain
I don't possess the tech skills to be Captain, as for team names...since we all got bumped to the last team how about ''the Rejects'' or whatever you decide.
|
opening day
Went out this afternoon just because I couldn't stay home for opening day. No luck, the 4 toms that were standing by the field road when I showed my girlfriend where I'd be hunting yesterday were nowhere to be found. I guess the birds know when March 20th is also!
|
the Rejects sounds good to me. Boca and Zim seem to be on here the most, do 1 of yall want the captains duties?
|
catch up
Teams 1 & 3 are on the board already, now who is going to take one for the team and be Captain? My son is the one who posts my pics for me. Me trying to run this would look like a monkey trying to compose a symphony on an abacus!
|
If no one wants it I can do what I can I guess.
Between school, work and the family I don't have much time. Especially on the weekends to get online but I can check in daily for a brief spell each day during the week. |
Thanks Capt Kelly
Thank you for stepping up.

springspur,
Check out this photo I took last month during my visit to my wife's childhood village in Sichuan, China. My in-laws walked down the street to buy fireworks from this vendor for honoring family grave sites in their back yard. Attachment 33246 |
I still have 4 weeks and 3 more days for our season opener here in Ohio.
|
Zim
Thanks for the visual aid, I can use that just as good as I can post pictures. Never made it to China, but did do 3 remote tours to S. Korea.
|
I'm with man of the fall, still a couple weeks until season.
-Jake |
My season starts on April 12th, and runs for 1 week. Went and checked some cameras today, and they are starting to strut! Didn't get a ton of pics, but enough to get the blood pumping..

good news, bad news
The bad news...went out to my hunt club property & had 2 birds gobbling 20 yards away on the other side of a small head of trees, I went the wrong way around and they boogered off. Another case of a bird with a brain the size of a walnut outsmarting me. The good news found a replacement truck for the one I totaled 2 weeks ago. a 2011 Ranger with 17,000 miles on it. The bed isn't even scratched! And it turns out that the man selling it is one of the Pastors at my girlfriends church. The frosting on the cake is I went to the Palmetto Sportsmans expo in Columbia S.C. and won the raffle for the NWTF Beretta A300 turkey gun! Quite a day. Would of been nice to of tagged a longbeard too, but I'll take it.
|
Seen several groups of hens with strutters in tow over the weekend. Our season starts April 6th. Probably a good thing too cause I'm about to run the wife off with all my practicing lol.
