Nice bird. Congrats.
Good luck with your girls.

Western MA Hunter 05-02-2017 03:51 AM

Thanks...
It has been a complete wash out the past couple of days. They are calling for heavy rain most of the week. I'm hoping there is a break sometime this week over the next few days before the weekend to get out again... we'll see.
Still 2 more weeks after this one.

I hear ya, ever since I shot my turkey last week the weather here in Ohio hasn't been the greatest for hunting. Calling for 40-50 mph wind gust today!

Western MA Hunter 05-03-2017 04:18 AM

been raining quite a bit... wasn't this am, but I had to get to work early.
It is supposed to rain the next week thurs - thurs... ugh...
I am going to try to get out tomorrow and Friday AM myself, and Sat w/ my girls, weather permitting.
I have not been seeing many birds around at all.

Western MA Hunter 05-03-2017 04:19 AM

Still plenty of time to put another couple of birds down.

RPD63 05-03-2017 05:20 AM

Good luck. Ma Hunter

Western MA Hunter 05-03-2017 09:05 AM

Going down south county to my friends house with him tomorrow AM.... been 3-4 toms in the back field every AM... time to double up.

Western MA Hunter 05-04-2017 04:27 AM

went with my buddy this AM.. had birds going everywhere across the road. Nothing where we had planned on setting up.
Tried working them but wound up having them henned up in middle of field. we left and heard a gobble near where our trucks were parked. Buddy had to go. I slipped up ridge above where they were gobbling.
Made a few calls and they came in quick. Probably took 5min for the entire setup.
2 big toms. If we were both there it would have been a nice double in the woods. This guy popped up about 12 yards from me over a little crest in the hill full strut drumming... he dropped his fan and I put
him to bed.
Big bird. 22.5 lb. 1" spurs. 10" beard.

RPD63 05-04-2017 05:18 AM

Very nice Ma Hunter....sounds like an exciting hunt. Did this one score higher than your first bird?
Ray

Western MA Hunter 05-04-2017 05:22 AM

Yes.. the first bird was 56 and change. this one 62 and change.
I still have a couple of tags left. I'll keep hunting to try to help us w/ both categories.
2 weeks left in MA and more than that in NY.

RPD63 05-04-2017 05:43 AM

Very nice. Now we need to get Turkey Slayer to post his three birds and we will be looking good.

Western MA Hunter 05-04-2017 06:06 AM

Let's go Turkey Slayer!

bornagain64 05-04-2017 07:02 AM

Nice job Ma Hunter.
not sure what is up with Turkey Slayer, but the scores are really close. It would really suck to loose the contest, because someone can not take 5 minutes to post a pic and a score.

bornagain64 05-04-2017 07:04 AM

Ma Hunter, did you ever get your girls out in the woods?
Mine used to go with me and really enjoyed it.

RPD63 05-04-2017 07:47 AM

I guess his name is actually Swamp Slayer....I forgot what he went by. I have sent him pm's.

Western MA Hunter 05-04-2017 09:20 AM

Bornagain... I am taking my 12 year old w/ me Saturday AM. She is bringing her best friend who has never been but can't wait to go.
My ex pulled some usual crap, so my 10 year old daughter won't be joining us.. hopefully the following weekend.
She is on trigger... jake, tom, whatever comes in gobbling! LOL

bornagain64 05-04-2017 10:18 AM

It is definantly not " post your scores and pics quicly slayer", that is for sure.
Ma Hunter, hopefully you are on birds with the girls. If they get some action and get the adrenaline going, that will be a succesful hunt.
My kids could never sit still very long and liked to do some of the calling. Lol, not the best for killing turkeys. I would let them do the owl and crow call as much as they wanted.
I made it about them and they had fun. A lot of naps where taken on those trips; and all by them.
Be safe and good luck.

Western MA Hunter 05-05-2017 04:06 AM

washout here today. I did not go. Got up and get dressed for work... big tom in back yard... of course!
Funny how they know.

Looking forward to tomorrow w/ the kiddos.

Arrowmaster 05-05-2017 08:47 PM

Off to Nebraska In the morning. Been a rough season for me. Ill hunt the last day of Missouri season Sunday the off to Nebraska. Gotta put a bird on the ground soon.

bornagain64 05-06-2017 09:27 AM

Good luck Arrowmaster. Stay after them and hopefully it all comes together.

Western MA Hunter 05-06-2017 04:56 PM

No luck today. Heavy wind and rain. Saw some driving round. That's about it

car 05-06-2017 06:05 PM

I'm going to try in the morning with my bow. It's going to be on the chilly side!

RPD63 05-06-2017 06:22 PM

Good luck Car.

Western MA Hunter 05-06-2017 06:56 PM

Good luck guys! I'll be back out Monday or Tuesday am

Western MA Hunter 05-08-2017 03:55 AM

37' out today w wind and showers... feels like March...
didn't bother to go out this am.

Western MA Hunter 05-08-2017 05:26 AM

going tomorrow rain or shine... just chatted w/ my buddy and there were 7 toms there today.. hopefully we double up tomorrow AM.

Western MA Hunter 05-08-2017 10:08 AM

That sounds promising..Good luck.

Western MA Hunter 05-09-2017 03:04 AM

Nothing in that spot this am.... by put another nice tom down in another spot!

Western MA Hunter 05-09-2017 04:45 AM

walked in on some birds in NY... they went running away... I made a big loop and called this guy in pretty quickly from about 200 yards.. all alone..

entered in score post. scores a bit higher than my best one this year yet.

bornagain64 05-09-2017 04:50 AM

Nice job WMH. Congrats. That loop trick never works for me. Lol

RPD63 05-09-2017 05:16 AM

Very nice Ma Hunter. That looks like a very big bird.

Western MA Hunter 05-09-2017 06:12 AM

Loop trick rarely works for me either... I'm not sure if this bird was with the one's I spooked or if he came in separately....

Western MA Hunter 05-10-2017 09:43 AM

boy... we could really use that extra bird that hasn't been checked in yet... this is getting too close for comfort.. 1 more bird for team 3 or 4 by someone who has not entered one yet will put them in the lead...

RPD63 05-10-2017 10:11 AM

I have tried to contact Swamp Slayer on several occasions. Arrowmaster has also tried and he's a moderator with connections. Still nothing.

bornagain64 05-10-2017 10:27 AM

That is not cool. Guys are all excited to hunt and kill a bird, but can not post there score.
Or, how about encouraging or congratulating those that are still hunting.

Western MA Hunter 05-10-2017 03:08 PM

I hear ya. I know it's just a game, but those if us who have been doing this while are rather serious about it. It's not about winning, per se, but more about the team commerodity and bragging rights.
Hopefully he comes through. I sure hope to put one more down, but the next 2 saturdays it's all about my girls.... unless she smokes one this sat. Fingers crossed

bornagain64 05-11-2017 12:47 AM

Good luck WMA hunter.
Car and Arrowmaster, how is it going?
Anyone else still hunting?
We are probably gonna need 1 more bird to seal the deal. ( that is not including the ones already killed that we need a score for)
No pressure Arrowmaster.
2 teams right on our heels and still have people hunting.

Western MA Hunter 05-11-2017 06:03 AM

does anyone know when the contest actually ends?

RPD63 05-11-2017 07:55 AM

I believe after the last season has ended...early June I believe.
