Youth season finally started today and we had a great time but I missed 2 big gobblers. 1 at 18 yards and 1 at 23 yards. I normally hit good at these distances in practice but I missed these gobblers. I am 9 years old. My papa wanted me to ask you all if you think a .410 is strong enough for turkey. After today he's wondering because in practice I always hit the target good with the bulk of the bb's in the paper plates. Let me know what you all think.
I've never turkey hunted with a .410 but I would think they would need to be a little closer than normal. And from what I've read, it's a little more difficult. Maybe one of our other team members could offer you some better insight.

Would definitely move up to a 20 ga. I killed this nice gobbler this morning. Opening day in Arkansas. He weighed 21 lbs. 10 oz., a 10.5" beard and spurs at 1" and 1 1/8". He scores 63.875. It won't upgrade my best bird, but it will add to our total points.

My papa hunts with a 12 gauge and he said next year he's getting me a 20 gauge so it should be better next year. But as for this year we will keep on trying. My papa is Manofthefall and he will start hunting on Monday while I'm in school. He said he'll get those 2 I missed.

just joking. Good luck to him. As to your previous post I would definitely at least move up to a 20 gauge. I wouldn't think very many "5 shot could fit in a 410. Keep your head up. You'll get one

1 more week and counting. Had 4 jakes in the yard this am. Drove down the street before work and they were in the road. I pulled up next to them and stopped while they were on the edge of the road and a yard and yelped w/ my mouth and all 4 lit up about 4 feet from my truck window. Love it. Good sized jakes too.
Been seeing one tom here and there out back.
Other spots will hopefully be good. Generally lots of birds there.

If you were anywhere near me NXT, i have a remington youth 870 with a sumtoy turkey choke tube, it will shoot 3" 20ga shells,..i have a few custom nitro rounds of #7 tungsten, it is very deadly to 40y. You would be most welcome to borrow it.
Im curious how your 410 patterns and at what yardage you patterned it..
