On my Trade Rifle, I keep the powder to the outside of the pan, and make sure to wipe the flint and frizzen off. I use straight alcohol to swab and wipe out the pan, frizzen, etc. I really have no problem loading a second shot. Try smearing a little more bore butter on that pre-lubed patch. That will many times help. Also as the rifel brakes in, it will get better.
