I think itll be interesting to sight it in. I told him if its too much or too tight of a pattern i wont use it. We shall see!

i think im gonna mix it up this season and bust out the crossbow a few days and try to bag a bird with it. tommorow im gonna go take a walk around and do some scouting in my spots and see whats goin on with the turkeys there instead of just watchin the fields from the road ha. its about that time.

Another week or so and ill be doing the same thing!

Welcome Adam, finally heard my first gobble Friday morning. Gobbled twice and that's it. If this screwy Mo. weather don't straighten up turkeys may not gobble till seasons over,lol.

Yeah im itching to get out there. This weekend is supposed to be warm so ill probably sight in the guns and do some scouting. Got two shotguns i need to pattern and hoping the turkey thug shells work well out of my h&r. The marlin im sure will pattern with 1 5/8oz #4 federals i have.

26 days and counting. Weather needs to break and start warming up. If they don't get cranked up soon they may gobble into summer,lol.

Picked up some longbeard 3" #6 and some kent ultimate diamond #6 tonite. Got 48 turkey targets i basically stole off fleabay on the way hehe. Should be a good weekend with temps close to 60!

Spring is officially canceled today!

Woke up toget out scouting as I have a learn to hunt program in 7 days only to find another 5 to 6 inhces of snow and the power is out.
Went back to bed!

Heard 3 this morning and they were hammering it. My buddy heard 5 and they gobbled till 8 am. Hurry up season!!!!!

Weatherman here lied....supposed to be 50-60 this weekend....now its a winter weather advisory and low 30's....great

6" of snow....spring is nowhere to be found here

rain, sleet, and ice here over the weekend...and cold. lots of snow gone w/ the rain so things should start turning on here soon.
I did see a nice tom with about a dozen hens today.

Saw three jakes over the weekend. Thats been pretty much the extent of my scouting is driving to work. Cant get into my spots because of either flooding or deep snow, mud you name it. Hoping it starts to dry up a bit soon! Until then ill keep puttering with making calls!

And so everybody knows...my goal this year is to harvest a turkey with my ten year old son. Been trying for close to 5 years and it nevers happens. So if a jake pops out and hes with me...jakes going down!

They were tearing it up this weekend, Heard several birds on the roost and they are starting to gobble all day long.

First good day scouting. Got the woods alive, the robins where singing as where the cardinals.
but once they fly down all is quiet. Still too dang much snow.

Another good day of scouting. They had Lock Jaw pretty much but the big flocks are breaking up and I did see Toms strutting and now in packs of 2 or 3 or 5 and even hens in single digit bunches.
All waking on the dang frozen tundra!
But hey I found 3 huntable spots for my Learn to Hunt program this Saturday. Ya I know it takes away a chance at a nice bird for me......but I hunt when the dumb ones are all gone! :)

And with this winter - the early birds will be light wt. Let them fatten up a bit!

Did some scouting after work yesterday. No tracks or any sign in my usual hot spot. Still early yet.

snow almost gone... been seeing small groups of birds popping up in fields... a couple toms in one field... nice one in dad's yard the other day. less than 4 weeks!

Brought a group of kids to Jeff city for the state Skills USA competitions and the fields were stacked today with lots of hens and strutters. 18 days left

aaaa i went out scouting finally. saw some good sign but seems to be less than last two years. but im gonna start treeing some birds if i can and scout more in the next two weeks caus thats how long i have to wait still until turkey season starts here...damn im gettin anxious.

so how many birds do we have so far? and whats the biggest one?

Teamwise i dont beleive we have any. Thatll change here in a few weeks :)

well tomorrow I have a Mentored Learn to Hunt- actual hunt with a young man. And shoot we got another 4 inches of snow.......but I am in a good spot!

not much happening here... 3 weeks and counting

Two weeks to go. Put my scope back on my shotgun last weekend for a friend to use. Went to sight it in and learned something. Even though the back end of that scope has rubber on it, it still hurts pretty bad when you get too close and it kicks back and digs into your forehead. Busted it wide open, but healing nicely now.

Luckily the old Marlin Goosegun I use doesn't need a scope on it.

My dad has a marlin goose gun he wants me to try out this year. 36" barrel full choke....im thinking itll be fun! Saw 5 strutters yesterday morning but havent heard a peep yet.

The Mo youth season starts tomorrow and I am taking a young man on a hunt. We have 1 week left till our season but this will help cure the itch to get out there. If we score ill post some pics.

Sounds great! Always love getting the kids involved. My son is ten and cant hunt til 12. But he goes out every spring with me since he was 5. Hoping this year is the year we finally connect while hes with me. Been trying to dang long!
