I've hunted turkeys in my dreams that were ten feet tall. I just hate the hunting dreams where you get a big tom in front of you and then you realize you forgot your gun. Those are the worst. It makes me double check my necessities to make sure I have everything before I actually leave for hunting. Don't want those bad dreams to come true.

I am heading out to guide for a hunt on Saturday. I might get to hunt, too. There was this charity wine auction last year and one of the items was "Turkey hunt with Pastor Jack" ....lol! Anyway, some dude who I don't even know paid like $500 to do so. So, I am gonna try to roost a bird for him tomorrow evening, but will hunt my own place in the morning. Once I get him a bird, I can hunt the place where I am taking him. So, wish us luck!

Good luck Arjuna.

I will be hitting the road sometime later this weekend on my way to Texas with my family. I may get the chance to check in here every once in a while, but if not, I should be back on within a week.

Hope to see a few dead birds next time I log on here.

got my new snake boots today, they feel great. the biggest problem i have is trying to sneak out to the field i'll be hunting opening morning to put some reflective markers to get my setup square, there are always turkeys out in it!!!!! i love that kind of problem.

Heard some gobbling today, but saw nothing. They shut up when they hit the ground and I just couldn't make anything happen. It rained all day Friday. Ughhh...

Well back from a great Honeymoon, which started out with a scouting trip for Turkeys in Southern Iowa. Advantage of having a wife that hunts or that wouldn't have happened. Located 2 groups 200 yards apart on Private land in the area of Public I was scouting. I NEED to get permission to hunt that. Even saw Toms breeding Hens already.

Default breeding

I agree about the turkeys breeding early. Toms have been topping the hens here for about a month. Such a mild winter. One thing I'm curious about.. if the hens are bred very early, do you think there will be a second hatch this year?

I would think the only way there would be a second hatch, is if the first nest got destroyed. haven't seen any breeding yet but the toms are going nuts and they are driving me nuts. Heard 6 behind my house this morning teasing me.
