Team 6 Roost Raiders

Wheres the team chat? I'll be heading out in the morning for opening day of bow season. Hopefully it'll be a little better than in the past. I guess if I see a bird tomorrow will be better than last years opener.

Alright Mottz! I hope you have fun and get us a nice bird!
Looks like I wont be able to scout until the day before season starts, I'm not concerned though last year I did no scouting and got my biggest bird yet opening morning in a new place. I do however like to scout new areas so I'll do my best to get in the woods before season.

Morning didn't start off too good. Field I was going to sit in had tractors in it from moving hay. Still thought I'd try it. Went to set up the pretty boy and figured out I forgot the fan in the truck. Still set it up since I carried it all that way. Had another hen decoy but I dropped the bottom half of the stake and couldnt find it in the dark. Leaned her against a hay bale. Heard alot of gobbling and had some on the roost in clear sight of my decoys but they pitched to the bottom and they went quiet. Moved to a different spot and had 2 gobbling at my calls but never did see them. At least its the 1st day of the season and my seeing birds was a better start than last year.

I wish they were Merriams but they are mainly Easterns. A buddy of mine shot a merriam off that land a few years back so there is a chance one may stumble along. That property is an hour away so its always a real early wake up. But I have another piece about 20 minutes away. Sounding better tryin to hit that spot.

28 days and counting!!! Going to do some scouting later this afternoon. Then see if I can locate some on the roost. They where roosting in the trees around and including where my deer stand is set up. I'm hoping they are still nearby. The property owner has seen them several times out feeding in the fields surrounding the woods. Hopefully they will stay on his side of the property. Going to look for scratch marks, droppings, etc.

What kind of affect (if any) does the rain & wind have on turkeys and turkey hunting? I know animals like deer and rabbits don't like strong wind and tend to lay low. I think maybe because it's harder for them to detect predators and other threats. If the wind is howling or it's noisy from rustling leaves, grass, etc. then maybe they can't hear a predator creeping up on them or can't scent as well. I figure turkeys might be like that too but wasn't sure. It seems as though most animals and birds don't seem bothered to much by the rain unless it's really storming out.
