JoeA 03-01-2012 05:20 PM

Checking in! :happy0001: I fly over to Kona tommorow (March 2) and will be doing the dance Sat & Sun. Best of luck to my fellow fevered fools. I'll be hunting HI and AL (so far it's Easterns 4, JoeA 0)

My offerings for Team 3 name:
-Fan-glorious Flockers
-Beard Busters

BetterBirddogs 03-02-2012 06:38 AM

Hey guys. Checking in from Kansas. Got a new camera I'm gonna try out this year. I hope to bring some footage to the team. I'm gonna be primarily hunting with a bow. We're gonna get her done. My bow hunting team won the deer hunting contest so hopefully we can continue. Jw if you make it to se ks give me a shout.

Andy

Checking in and raring to go! I'll be hunting TN primarily. Lawrence and Giles counties. JW, I believe we had mentioned in the past trying to hook up when you are in TN. I am game if you still are! May hunt a weekend in GA and possibly in AL on some family land, but it's never been hunted for turkey and #'s are low on it. TN will be my primary source of birds. Went scouting again yesterday morning and saw 14 gobblers! A couple of em are far bigger than any bird I've ever killed! Same farm produced a bird that scored 72.15 for me a couple years ago and these looked bigger than him! Man...I can't wait! Good luck, all!

574mag 03-02-2012 02:41 PM

574mag checking in. I will be hunting north central IN on private land. I haven't hunted spring birds the last couple of years as I have been trying to get one in the fall and we are only allowed one a year but I am excited about this spring I can't wait!

JW 03-02-2012 06:56 PM

Geez I think I hunt Giles too.......as I get closer we certainly can meet for coffee....

I am not sure what part of KS Birddog......but again if close we meet like above.

Team 3-points on the board!

Hi gang,
I got permission to post this so...
Sunday, I busted a decent 2yr old. Here's the stats: weight 11#, beard 8", l spur .875", r spur .750

It was not the prettiest of ends, but he stopped to look back, and ....
The scene got buggered by some cows, but Rem. Wingmaster HD #6
helped seal the deal.

Next month, AL here I come.

Arrowmaster 03-06-2012 04:59 AM

Joe can you post a pic of the bird on the team thread here. I saw your pic on the main turkey forum. Thanks

Your score is 11 + 7.5 + 8.75 + 16 = 43.25

Bible_Man 03-06-2012 08:48 AM

Way to go Joe! Busting em early!

Bible_Man 03-06-2012 10:30 AM

Where you hunting in AL, Joe?

JoeA 03-06-2012 12:21 PM

Here's the necessary pix: left spur, right spur, beard and full body shot.

It took a bit of work. I couldn't get him or the longer bearded tom to break away from 7 hens. I waited for 1.5 hrs hoping they'd move towards the trees they were kinds walking towards when I spotted them. Once the hens filtered downhill, the two toms followed. I stalked after them, only to have a cow suddenly enter the scene from my right, trotting towards me.

The turkeys spooked, and so I popped over the edge of the bowl and busted the tom who stopped to look back. 35-40yds with 3" Rem. Wingmaster HD #6 (my Briley x-full turkey choke loves this stuff)

I'm hoping to bust a bigger one in AL next month.

Arrowmaster 03-06-2012 01:10 PM

Nice Joe :)

Bucktail_Bob 03-06-2012 01:11 PM

Checking in, I’ll be hunting Illinois. I too was on the team that won the bow hunting contest this year.
Congrats to Joe to be the first to connect, I still have to wait another month and a half.

I guess I'll step up and be the team captain. I've participated in the contest for several years, so it's about time.

Does anyone have any objections "Fan-glorious Flockrz" as our team name?

Please PM me your personal e-mail and a snail mail address.

JW 03-08-2012 04:16 PM

1st - way to go Joe!!
2nd - you got my vote for team captain - I help run this contest so I am busy scoring and posting team scores.......thanks Joe

3rd - I am gone quite a bit as I hunt several states and have another home in the north of WI......I am retired! and living the dream!

JW

BetterBirddogs 03-09-2012 07:12 AM

T3

Well I would guess I'm the Old Fart JW! is referring to, so I'm signing in. Bad as I hate to admit it, I'd rather be on a team with JW! than on one against him.

Looks like a good team, so lets kick some butt! Good hunting to all.

JW 03-10-2012 03:54 AM

That's a good doggy.....:)

Folks Ole Dog will bring in at least 2 good Toms - I do know his goal is a 25 lb minimum wt limit. Let's hope he hits that this year.

But I told him he wants a biggun he needs to head north!

JW

Ken/WV 03-10-2012 03:48 PM

Ken/WV 03-10-2012 03:51 PM

JW 03-10-2012 04:01 PM

Arrowmaster 03-11-2012 06:37 AM

Whitetail94 has been added to your team.

Ken/WV 03-11-2012 12:34 PM

Just caught up on everything in the forum and its great to be on the board so quickly. Will try and post up a pic from the meadow this morning.

Bible_Man 03-12-2012 10:41 AM

Three weeks from today will be my first chance to be in the woods...I can't wait! Went out scouting again this weekend and saw 8 mature birds, 11 jakes and about 25 hens! Got my blood to pumping!

BetterBirddogs 03-13-2012 05:03 AM

I hear ya. I put out a couple cameras and drove by a group of toms on my way over on a place we hunt.

Bible_Man 03-13-2012 08:34 AM

Oh...as far as our team name, I couldn't care less. "Team 3" would work for me. "Team Three" would work for me."Fan-glorious Flockrz" would work for me as well.

I say since Joe is stepping up to be the cap'n, he should be the one that gets to choose the name.

Bible_Man 03-13-2012 08:36 AM

Also, if we wanted a really long name, I would be fine with "Team 3: JW, JoeA, Whitetail94, Bible Man, onetohunt, dog1, Ken/WV, Bucktail Bob, BetterBirddogs, 574mag".

That may be a little too long, though.

JoeA 03-13-2012 06:29 PM

Team avatar anyone? Feel free to work on one.

JW 03-13-2012 06:56 PM

Bible-man that name with all of us isted would kill me when I do the team stats :D

And I agree Joe you pick........

JW

Arrowmaster 03-13-2012 07:23 PM

Ok deernutz is on team 3

Ken/WV 03-13-2012 08:34 PM

Like the name. Got my name and addy sent to Joe as well. So looks like I'm caught up.

Bible_Man 03-15-2012 10:41 AM

Nice work, Joe! I like "Fan-Glorious Few" more than "Fan-Glorious Flockrz", too. I still think we should have listed all the names just to dig at JW...ok, maybe not.

JoeA 03-15-2012 03:27 PM

Fellow few...

What are the dates of the seasons you're hunting this year? It'll help us keep track of our teammates' progress. Hawaii's season ends on March 31. I am hunting central Alabama, west of Montgomery, on April 20-22.

Let me know if you want to use the avatar I whipped up. I'll e-mail it to you.
