WI - 4/30 to May 22 - I have a Fort McCoy tag and will have general kill tags for periods 3, 4, 5, & 6 Zone 1 and kill tags for periods 5, 6 Zone 5. So right now I am 0 for 12 possibilites..........we will fix that. JW..... Ps - anyone up for a travel call? I got a box call I can send around - let me know who wants it first. use it - sign it - send it on to the next team hunter....... JW |
I get to hunt April 25 thru May 13 in Indiana. We are allowed 1 tom.
|
I have been seeing birds at both of the properties that I hunt and one of them is a big boy that I have been trying to get with a bow the last couple of years. Maybe this spring?! But I learned a while back not to be greedy and take what I can get!
JW, if you start sending that call around I would be honored to use it, sign it and send it on if given the opportunity. I am really looking forward to this spring! |
This might be a short season for me. I have birds spotted all over the damn place. I saw a group of 15 toms tonight all of them sporting 10 inch beards. I have a nice group of birds right by the house. One of my landowners told me he was working terraces the other night and saw 200 birds in one field. I believe him. I saw 50 birds roosted in dang tree there last spring. No one really shoots these birds around here but me and my fiancee'.
JW I'm in SE Kansa by FT Scott. Come on over. Send the box call around. I'll use it on video and kill one and pass it on. |
Love the box call idea. I can use it anytime through april and early may.
|
hey sorry i didnt check in earlier i was away for a week
|
hey welcome!
Okay guys those who want to use the travel call - I need an address......and we need to list who hunts first so I will go back and read..... There will be two travel calls sent together. A Custom Box and a Custome Slate.....the slate was given to me by a Team member here ..aka....dog1, and a great turkey hunter......he has the patience of a saint.....and knows his woods.... I start March 31 anybody earlier? JW |
My first day in the woods will be April 2nd...my brother-in-law is getting married on March 31st, the TN opener...could he have possibly picked a more inopportune date?!? I would also be honored to use the calls and send them on their way!

Ga Season
Our season in GA. starts Mar. 24th to May 15th. We can kill 3 gobblers, fully expect to be thru before May. I've been going to the woods for 4 weeks now, just about everyday, and listening to the birds. I heard 5 this morning and even followed 3 this morning trying to fiqure out where they were headed. All 3 was gobbling and when they met up with hens 2 stoped gobbling. I figure by his sound and the others hushing, he is most likely the dominant bird. I backed out after they met up with the hens.

Go get'em dog1, Whitetal94, 574mag, JW !!!
It looks like you all will hit the woods within a day or two of each other, Apr 23-25. Keep up the scouting, "get the doing done" and we will win this thing! |
Hey Coach! Did everybody check in?
JW |
Small chance that I may be hunting in GA, close to Albany, next weekend. My brother-in-law is getting married, blowing my opening day plans here in TN on the 31st, but I may get to go down there. Depends on how busy we are, but I am hoping it works out!
|
Has anyone heard from Deernutz?
|
Nope is all checked in? If not we can still get replacements.......
JW |
Its going to be early this year with all this warm weather in Northern Il.
Its a month away, and the geese and Sandhills are already sitting on eggs. I should apply for a poult tag. |
Yep, I think the warm weather is going to screw a lot of things up here.....I have already started finding mushrooms and ramps.
|
I always thought it had more to do with the length of the days...things are going about the same here this year as they have in the past.
|
TN - here I come! Hope to make opening.........scouting reports - well here -

6 Birds
Well yesterday was opener here in GA. and we had nothing but storms on and off all day in my area.
Today was better, temperature down in the low 50s', had 6 different birds talking and six birds still walking. Worked one bird from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., he was close but with hens and they took him past me. The other 5 was just to far and the wind got up pretty bad and I couldn't hear them after 9. Oh Well, got 2 months. dog1 |
Keep at it dog!
|
good luck dog. i went out scouting and saw 2 strutting around with 8 hens gotta wait till April 25 tho for opener
|
Awesome pics. Still waiting here....but the birds are singing.

When I copy and paste the avatar pic it gives me a picture format error.

POSTED FOR DOG1 -
Our season opened this past Sat. 24 Mar. got my 1st bird this morning at 9:05 a.m came in silent and following a hen. Here are his stats: 19.5 lbs, RS-3/4 inches, LS-7/8 inches, Main beard-11 and 1/2 inches, 2nd beard-4.0 inches, 3rd beard-2.5 inches. JW! has the pics and normally post them for me, if he will again be so kind. I didn't notice the 2 smaller beards when taking the pics, only when I moved him to my cleaning bench did I see them, they are thin, but there, first time for me. dog1 Your score is 19.5 + 7.5 + 8.75 + 36 = 71.75 pics to follow ~ JW ATTA BOY dog1 |
Way to go Dog1! On the board again! I was hoping to go in GA this weekend while there for my brother-in-law's wedding, but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Friday morning would be the only time I'd get to go and I can't justify buying out-of-state licenses for one hunt. Cheap, I know. But, got a daughter on the way and gotta save what I can.
On another note, I patterned one last time today and got 205 hits in a 9" circle...phenomenal pattern. I'll be out in the TN woods Monday morning, good Lord willing! |
Go dog!!!! Way to bust a big one!
|
dang the doggie did it again.......I need to be there with him so I can teach him how to post! :)
Dave, Got this on this morning at the same place, another set of this one coming, use what you want and Thanks. Dane 19 and 1/4 lbs, 1st beard-11 and 3/8 inches, 2nd beard-11.0 inches, RS-1.0 inch, LS-3/4 inch (part broke off), this is my first ever double beard and yesterdays was my first ever triple beard. Both killed out of same blind and close to same time, 9:05 a.m yesterday and 9:00 a.m. today. Thanks dcb Your score is 19.25 + 10 + 7.5 + 44.75 = 81.5 wow! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Sweet, Dog! Knocking down some bigguns!
|
Opening day in TN - 3/31/12 - I passed on a 9 inch or so bearded hen I called in at 7:02 AM Did shoot her so to speak - I took a Picture as she was less than 7 yards from me - Later that day at 10 AM I passed on 7 jakes I called in.... Was a good day. Roosted a good bird that night.
Second day - FOGGYYYYY!!!!!! It sucked.....and the temp dropped. Very few morning gobbles. That bunch of Jakes were busy making noise but not he bird I new was there. 6:50 AM Gobble behind and I bet it was because of my decoy.......7:01 AM 2 hens walked right though my decoys the dang bird is still behind me. 7:15 AM 7 Jakes make an appearance and I had the gun up - one strutted - in my scope I could see 5 red heads......man with one shot....more than a dang limit.....but I just messed with their heads and they walked out in front and stopped at 50 to 60 or so......I made them gobble numerous times.....still foggy and they are had to see. I then see another bird - figured it was just one of the jakes - it was not! He had a nice dangly beard......couple of clucks - one soft yelp and he saw my other Jake decoy and he he comes - head out - slow walk never taking his sight off that decoy......I let him get to 30 yards and then he turns sideways - and the shot is over at 7:22 AM. 21 lb 12 oz., spurs R 3/4 L 3/4 Beard 10 - 15/16 pics to follow when I get homee in a few days. Your score is 21.75 + 7.5 + 7.5 + 21.875 = 58.625 JW |
