The number one most violated rule in this contest that ends in no points for you our your team is not having a picture that includes you, your bow and your FULL deer.

Please, let's no go down this road again this year by disqualifying kills. Last year there were 2 nice bucks that could have helped the team but no points were scored due to the above violation. Don't let it happen to you!

1. Deer(whitetail/mulie/blacktail)must be taken legally and ethically as laws apply in the state your hunting including tags.

2. Archery equipment only which include crossbows, compounds, longbows and recurves. One bow contest only.

3. deer only (whitetail, mule, blacktail)including antlered doe. does with no antlers get 25 points.

4. We will be using the Pope & Young Gross/Green scoring system, no deductions. Velvet bucks scored the same. (See percentages below)

Whitetail (as norm):125/125 = score x 1
Columbia blacktail: 125/90 = score x 1.39
Sitka blacktail: 125/75 = score x 1.67
Mule deer: 125/145 = score x 0.86

For an incredible tutorial please see this link: http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/2012...13&mpage=1

5. Open to all members new and old unless your signed up in another bow contest on HNI(only) You may sign up for the rifle contest as well, please don't sign up and disappear, you'll be replaced. No more than 11 persons per team, drawn randomly....alternate's when necessary starting with first come first serve....I'll oversee it.

6. Signup begins today, Deadline to join is Aug 29th , with alternates then being taken until Sept 30st or as needed to complete teams. Teams will be posted on Aug 30th. All members will have until Sep 15 to check in with their team or they will be replaced.

7. You must have a pictured posted on the contest page within the Official Score Card thread to enter a deer. The bow must be in the picture and the entire deer must be in the picture, no skull pictures, no rack pictures...the buck, the bow, and yourself must be in the picture.....call me skeptical. This rule will be enforced this year, no exceptions with no apologies.

A) Within this post, the measurements as required by the P&Y scoring sheets shall be listed. Example as follows.

B) Total 131 2/8

Right ----- Left

MB 18 6/8 ----- 17 4/8
G1 4 ----- 3
G2 6 4/8----- 6
G3 6 4/8 ----- 4 6/8
G4 4 4/8 ----- 1
G5 1 -----

H1 5 6/8----- 6 2/8
H2 4 4/8 ----- 4 4/8
H3 4 4/8----- 5 6/8
H4 3 6/8----- 3 2/8

Inside spread 15 4/8

Abnormal points
1. 4
2.
3.

For scoring help, please check this turorial: http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/2012...13&mpage=1

8. Total number of inches of all team member's animals will decide the winner....see rule 4.

9. You must enter the first bow kill antlered deer you get.....second buck for you lucky states will not count. First buck means first taken regardless of multi state hunts. Also see rule 10.

10. The entry must be posted within 10 days of taking it OR notification must be made to the team, team captain, participating moderator or admin that an animal is down with description to determine that a participant isn't holding out for a better animal. This is not fair for single tag states nor those that cannot travel and hunt multiple states. The first antlered animal must be counted.

11. No penned shot deer accepted, deer must be a free range wild animal regardless private or public land. Guided hunts acceptable as long as the animals are free range.

12. All disagreements, controversies and conflicts will be decided on by a majority vote from a panel consisting of Team Capt's and moderators participating within the contest. Those decisions will be final.

13. Contest ends Jan 31st. (new date this year)

14. Rules set forth for a smooth contest, the main rule is to have fun and enjoy your fellow teammates and all the smack talk that goes along with this contest.

iamyourhuckleberry 09-24-2012 06:47 AM

I'm here and ready to go! My name is Will and I'm from Colorado. Shot a 170 class mulie over the weekend, but it won't help any. It got onto private property and I could not recover it. The posted signs stated, "NO trespassing allowed under any condition". My heart sank. I'll give it heck elsewhere (since our archery season is now over). I have hunts scheduled in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Alabama. I should be good for at least 130 inches...

Wish everyone luck!

hey halfbaked we had a rule change this year. Fieldmouse has a thread for this new rule if you have any questions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Members, we have a new rule change this year. Everyone will be allowed one doe to count for your score. The points awarded after the pic that includes you, your doe and your bow will be 25 points.

kkrandyll 09-25-2012 05:09 PM

Jeff (early in) from Pa checking in for Team 15. I've been around for a while, I just vanish during the off season because I have a real bad wild trout addiction! :D

bkautz 09-28-2012 07:17 AM

checking in to team 15! Ill be hunting Iowa and missouri whitetail and California Blacktail

SouthernStrut56 09-28-2012 04:13 PM

Checkin in. I'll be hunting private property in Alabama.... and possibly some in west Georgia if I feel like shelling out the cash for an out of state license. I got a few pictures that are ok so far but nothing like last year. Saw a very nice 8 pt (approx 130") one morning last November that I had on camera, but he showed up where I couldn't get turned on him. Never saw him again and haven't gotten any pictures of him this year yet. We hung a couple stands last week and are hanging more tomorrow so we'll be ready come october.

halfbakedi420 09-28-2012 05:21 PM

ok people, need team names and cap'n votes.
they added doe count to the score..25pts(inches) each. so thats 250 inches basically if e1 gets a doe.

early in 09-29-2012 06:38 AM

How about "rack and roll" for a team name? lol Anyone with the time to be team capt gets my vote.

Also, didn't they allow doe to be counted in the past? I thought they did.

Bowtech 9 checking in. Will be hunting in CT & PA

I vote for Rack & Roll for team name.

Sorry I just dont have the time to be the team Capt. Finding time to hunt is going to be tough let alone

iamyourhuckleberry 10-01-2012 12:17 PM

I let several doe pass this weekend while hunting in South Dakota. I wish the Black Hills District wasn't a one deer zone. Otherwise, a doe would have come home with me. I also finished the job another archer started. The bonehead took a frontal shot from 25 yards and arrowed a nice nine point through the neck (the arrow was dead center through the white neck/chin patch). It came by me and I could see the arrow protruding. The deer was hardly effected...certainly would not have died for several weeks. From 22 yards, I ended a very bad case of public relations. The young hunter thanked me and I let him take the deer (it was his first attempt at bow hunting). We had a discussion on shot placement before he departed....

I won't be in the deer woods until mid-November, unless I can sneak out for a day trip.

Good hunting everyone!

JCNinOKC 10-01-2012 06:41 PM

Hi guys and any gals. My name is Joe and I will be hunting in OK. Season just got started today, had deer come in right after shooting time ended. Maybe tomorrow.

JCNinOKC 10-01-2012 07:16 PM

I should get plenty of opportunity to hunt, but I won't have any time to be a captain as I am a Wildlife Biologist @ a WMA and this is our busiest time of the year. Sorry I did not check in sooner, but I have been very busy the past week putting together our departments Wildlife Expo. Now that it is over I have a little breather to catch up. Look forward to great hunts with Team 15.

JCNinOKC 10-01-2012 07:28 PM

How about "The Gray Ghost" for a name?

halfbakedi420 10-02-2012 07:01 AM

NEED VOTES FOR CAPN AND TEAM NAME PEOPLE!
i dont wanna be the capn is not a good answer.

iamyourhuckleberry 10-02-2012 03:55 PM

I'll be captian. It cannot be that hard...

I'd like a catchy one word names which defines us...like, "Something". We are something, right?

halfbakedi420 10-02-2012 04:59 PM

ok, its between early in and huckleberry...pm yer votes, i wont tell anyone who you voted for.

JCNinOKC 10-02-2012 06:55 PM

Well boys I have a doe down @ 7:25 tonight. Slight quartering away, complete pass through, arrow looks like liver/lung shot. Did not here her fall so I am going to let her lay overnight and find her in the morning.

iamyourhuckleberry 10-02-2012 08:30 PM

Good luck in the morn Joe. Make sure you get good pics when you find her.

peakrut 10-02-2012 08:40 PM

It looks like huck is the team Capt. Congrats! He'll make a fine leader. Now, let's kill some deer!!!!

iamyourhuckleberry 10-03-2012 08:22 AM

Peak,

Awesome deer you took! Congrats, I am excited for you!

2012 has been very kind to me...I feel incredibly privileged. Back in April, I arrowed a new world record Merriam's turkey, and then in July I had another stellar trip to Africa. I finally arrowed my long sought after cape buffalo, taking it with a single double lung/heart shot. I also managed to gain the advantage on a very respectable cape bush buck, genet cat, zebra, red hartebeest, white springbok, and black wildebeest. I'm looking forward to going back in 2014 for a Sable and Hippo.

I finally drew an Iowa deer tag. I'm looking forward to hunting there the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Just After Thanksgiving, I'll be near Birmingham, Alabama for four days-bow in hand for deer. Nebraska and South Dakota will be hit on weekends whenever possible. And finally, There's a slight chance for a hunt in Arizona right after the first of the year. It will all depend on my work schedule.

To my Teamies,

Sure, I will accept the captain job:action-smiley-099:Let's get going!

For a team name I like: Entwined
Strings of Deception, or
Strings of Confidence
Bowdacious
Force with Reason

Bowtech9 10-03-2012 02:08 PM

Guys I understand that any deer taken with a bow is a trophy but check out some of the does that have been checked in so far. One still had spots on it. I just dont see the purpose of shooting the little ones. Let'm walk beside how much meat will they be getting out of those puppies. I just don't see it. Sorry if I offend anybody but I had to vent after seeing so manty small does shot. Mistakes happen but we should be able to identify the young deer just by a look at the body, face etc.. Now I feel better. Good Luck to all, be safe and happy hunting

halfbakedi420 10-03-2012 02:29 PM

I feel ya on the spots....but we just have dog sized deer here..wish i was fortunate enough to shoot a 200lb deer

JCNinOKC 10-03-2012 04:48 PM

Well boys bad news. I could not find her today. Had blood start about 60 yards after impact and only went for about another 20 yards. Spent the entire day canvasing the area with no luck. I am just totally confused by this, it look like such a good hit. The only thing I can think of is that it was high from her jumping the string and went between vitals and the spine. I just don't know. Really disappointed in myself cause it made it into the 80's today and I hate the waiste. Will be back in the saddle again tomorrow.

deucebrown 10-04-2012 10:40 AM

im down for whoever is captain... but i like trick em and stickem

halfbakedi420 10-05-2012 05:18 AM

Not embarrissing to me just frustrating. It is called hunting not killing. These things happen and if you don't share your experiences with others you don't learn or others may think that it only happens to them and quit our wonderful heritage and that is the last thing we need is less hunters, especially less bowhunters.

halfbakedi420 10-05-2012 07:27 PM

its embarrassing for the site.
it is called hunting. not go wound something and not recover it and go shoot something else and it's ok.
in yer field you should know to wait for a better shot? practice practice practice? nothing less than perfect! what happened?
its not a good example to push the "i wounded an animal and am going to go kill some more"...because then folks are like.....

"fuggit, that guy wounded one and is gonna go practice some more on live game and its no big deal, and he is a wildlife biologist, ill just go shoot a few more my dam self til i figure this out!"

vs

"na dude i cant go (do what ever) cause i have to stay here and shoot arrows er the guys on huntingnet are gonna tar and feather me if i fugg up and take anything less than a perfect shot!"

i think its easy to figure which way i would want my own kids mentality to be.
