That's no good Marty. Bow hunters seem to have some pretty ****ty luck at times.
If that deer was scoring 130-140, I'd put in at least another 6 hours. My first bow kill was a 130 that I hit too far back & ended up looking for him for 3 days. I had around 20 hours invested in searching for him & ended up finding him on day three. He was tore up pretty good & the meat wasn't salvageable, but the antlers were & they're hanging in my living room. 8) So get back out there & find that deer. |
Was there any places where it looked like he bedded and there were pools or patches of blood? This hit sounds like the hit my dad put on a buck last year. My dad hit in front of the shoulders and we had good blood for a mile before he got to land we could not go on.. This deer is still alive today. If you hit in front of the shoulder and the deer was broad side or quartering away i believe he will live. If he was quartering to you at all then there is a chance he is dead. Good Luck. Don't let it get you down if you don't find it. Learn from your mistake and move on.

he was slightly quartering away, the arrow went in shoulder and i believe it went out the front of the brisket, just missing the vitals, I think he is probably still alive, he never did bed down, and didnt seem to have any problem going up and down hills and draws. he will probably be one of those limpers you see during rifle season. It just sucks, i would have rather just plain missed him than to leave him running around wounded.

Any water sources out there where he may have run to? I hate the thought of you giving up and not finding the deer but if you believe that you have done all you can, (and I don't know your hunting situation so I don't judge) well then I'm sorry to hear about the misfortune. It happens to the best of us and has happened to me so I know the feeling of what the heck went wrong. Keep at it and get another one! But keep your eyes on the ground to in case you happen to stumble across him. Good Luck out there!

im pretty sure he is somewhere in a square mile of unharvested sunflower in which i do not have permission to enter so for lack of better words, im screwed either way.

Going to head out this afternoon and with a SW wind switching to the West by early evening, I'm hoping to sit in the stand that the buck was by last week. We also had some nice rain last night for once in a long time so hope that gets em up and movin.

good luck to ya Ryan. I'm also heading afield here in a few. Strong storms rolled through this morning & will return again after dark. The deer should be moving.

That was un-eventful. Just seen a family of coons. They were calling for a SW to West wind but I swear I was getting hit by the breeze from the SE. So I'm guessing that may have had something to do with it.

Would you guys agree with me that these are 2 different bucks?

yup, the one on top has a broken g3 on the right side, the bottom one doesnt. The bottom one looks to have more mass as well. The bottom buck looks like an old deer as well, very big body, he would definetaly be on my hit list.
