Greetings friends! Just wanted to say happy thanksgiving to all! Have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Good luck to all once the hunting continues....

dmax4me 11-22-2012 04:01 PM

I'm heading back out to Ohio tomorrow. It's supposed to be really cold this weekend.
I'm hoping that I can get it done this weekend. This has been a very frustrating season so far. I wish all of you good luck this weekend. I believe we can be back on top with just a few more entries.
Scott

Good luck & be safe.

Mottz 11-23-2012 08:22 AM

Just after last weekends epic failure, with alot of rutting activity going on, I'm hoping that love is still in the air.Hoping to get out tomorrow and Sunday. I'll just have to see what the wife thinks about that though. I need 1 more chance at that big boy!!

kellyguinn 11-23-2012 06:01 PM

Here is a pic right before I let the arrow go. If ya look hard you can see me in orange on the ground on the right side of the pic. This is him on the ground. He is not big but with the warm temps (It was 80 during the day)and the high number hunters that have been out there this year it was very tough. I'm still looking at getting out but since this contest uses the first buck I guess this is it. lol Hope yall have some good luck.Kelly

Mottz 11-23-2012 06:14 PM

I was waiting on the pic to give you a big congrats!!! That is cool how you're in the background. A definite pic to hold onto.

On_Point 11-23-2012 07:33 PM

Great job Kelly! Youre the second of our team to enter both buck & doe, congratulations & thank you. Now get that buck measured & post a score. :party0005:

Mottz 11-25-2012 09:37 AM

Perfect morning to be out with the exception of not seeing a single deer.

kellyguinn 11-25-2012 11:49 AM

Got the score up, its not much....87 5/8..... Really tough this year. It got up to 80 degrees the day I got him. Just crazy weather and with the warm temps there seemed to be more hunters this year.

sdhunter11 11-25-2012 04:39 PM

congrats kelly!!!!

I went back to my home town to visit the family for thanksgiving, tagged along with my dad this morning before we left for home. He shot a very nice 5x5 right at first light! It was great to get some hunting time in with him (even if it was with a rifle lol). Here is a pic.

On_Point 11-25-2012 09:01 PM

Great buck & quality time spent with dad, AWESOME!!!

Donald522 11-26-2012 12:18 AM

I'm headed out to Ohio this weekend to do some scouting.

On_Point 11-27-2012 05:27 PM

Hows everyone doing, Yall still hunting hard?
Ive been afield for the last 7 days straight & have 4 more to go & its taking a toll on me. Ive really been hunting hard to get one of our two shooters down & the rut is still on here in central Illinois, so Im not about to give up yet. Its just a matter of time till one of them end up in bow range.

Lets get an update from everyone if ya dont mind. Anyways, good luck yall.

sdhunter11 11-27-2012 06:58 PM

Im on call this week and the wife has to work this weekend and i have to work the next weekend. Thinking about taking a couple days off work next week to hunt, then i get to hunt the weekend of the 15th, and that is going to pretty much be my last hoorah for the 2012 archery season

I just realized that Illinois' 2nd firearm season runs Nov.29th-Dec 2nd, so I guess I wont be bowhunting this weekend, but Ill be doe hunting with my Charles Daly for sure. Ill be back after the bucks again next monday.

Marty, keep at it bud. Its not over yet!

Outdoorcountry 11-28-2012 02:51 AM

Shotgun season opened here in the Fingerlakes Region on the 17th so I put a few more Doe in the freezer. Thompkins County (About 45 south of me) has an overpopulation of Doe, so I signed up for a special 3 week season in January. You print your own tags and can take 2 deer a day. Should be a good time! I'm probably going to hunt the bow-only areas in the state parks...just love the sound that arrow makes when it blows through the rib cage!
Finish strong fellas! Wash that gear in scent free soap, hang it outside, hunt a new spot, and sneak in downwind. Hunt those feeding patterns...He's out there waiting for your arrow! A good friend of mine shot the biggest buck of his life on the last day of season.

jemrami9 11-29-2012 06:22 PM

All good here... Plugged 2 does for gun season. Let all the bucks pass, didnt want to be greedy. Gotta leave some quality for next season. Late season bow season is going now. I'm not gonna hunt unless we get close point-wise and I can try to get a doe for us. Good luck to everyone else regardless...

Mottz 11-29-2012 07:06 PM

All points help so get out there and shoot some more does:D I have all of December yet so I'm hoping I can get some antlers in my hands before the end.

On_Point 11-30-2012 10:50 AM

Here in Illinois we have unlimited doe tag privlages & bow season doesnt end till Jan. 20th. I also still have 2 buck tags & loads of wall & freezer space, so Ill be hunting till the very last day.

Mottz 12-02-2012 04:57 PM

I'm at a loss???? All my deer are gone. Been 2 sittings now and no sightings at all. My cams showed 1 basket rack and a few does. I hope we get a good cold front because this 60 degree weather in Dec is throwing us a curveball.

sdhunter11 12-02-2012 07:21 PM

I hope that is not the case up here tomarrow, its been awhile since i have been out but i have all day tomarrow and i plan on sitting all day, hopefully the wind will keep them close to the draws.

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 09:12 AM

Finally got some bone on the ground this morning. Got in the stand just before light and planned on sitting all day but i only needed about 45 minutes lol. Right at sunrise i let out a few tending grunts and about 5 minutes later this buck came into 27 yards, grunting with every step and looking for a fight lol. I held high with my 20 yard pin and let her rip. arrow hit low in the chest but just perfectly behind the shoulder. Took out the heart and bottom of both lungs, he only made it 34 yards before he met his maker. This is the biggest whitetail i have ever got with my bow so i am pretty stoked. I'll score him tonight. here's the pics. good luck guys.

Outdoorcountry 12-03-2012 09:16 AM

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 11:08 AM

dmax4me 12-03-2012 02:21 PM

Awesome looking Buck Marty! Congratulations! Great pictures.
That Buck will put us in first place. Way to Go.

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 03:52 PM

I got him measured!!! He came out to 132 1/8". I set a 130" goal before the season started and i cant believe i was actually able to fulfull it

Mottz 12-03-2012 04:23 PM

Great Job! The smile on your face shows the victory!!

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 04:23 PM

ok i have him entered, team pass thru now has 735.25 pts total, that is 77.125 pts ahead of 2nd place team 3.

On_Point 12-03-2012 04:29 PM

Congratulations Marty!!! :party0005:

That is one fine looking buck there.

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 04:33 PM

thanks ryan, I hope your luck turns around.

sdhunter11 12-03-2012 04:38 PM

The wife is happy because i said about a month ago i wasnt shaving my face until i got a buck with my bow, so i guess i gotta shave tonight lol.

BUCKEYEhunter140 12-04-2012 08:33 AM

Very Nice SD hunter.... Gun Season is over in Ohio, and i'm ready to get back into the stand. The deer around my area are really not moving a lot. to warm right now. But once the cold hits and the snow starts they will be in my food plots i can count on that.
This is the 1st year i have never had a deer on the ground after gun season. Coyotes are hell on the deer. Jumped 4 during gun season and not a single deer. got one of them.
I'm about to start getting the call out and doing some damage them pesky critters

Rock on man! Nice work, congrats on that fine buck!!!! :happy0001:

sdhunter11 12-04-2012 06:43 PM

Thanks jesse, Im going to boil the skull down and whiten it this weekend and order a really cool indian arrowhead style wooden plaque to mount him on. It think he will make a great european mount.

jemrami9 12-04-2012 06:50 PM

Totally, that will look sweet! I wanna see that once its done.....

sdhunter11 12-04-2012 06:52 PM

ill be sure to post pics

Mottz 12-05-2012 04:25 PM

Hey Marty, why don't you make your own plaque? Heres a couple pics of what I made. Hope you can make them out. 1st 1 is a boring flat plaque that came with my 1st euro, 2nd one is a rage broadhead on a treestand platform that I made and the 3rd one is a bow wrapped in camo duct tape that I made. Gives it just a little more if you can make it yourself. Just an idea.

sdhunter11 12-05-2012 04:28 PM

your one hell of a wood worker ryan, i dont think i am talented enough to even come close to that lol. Thats amazing!!

jemrami9 12-05-2012 06:10 PM

Wow those plaques are sweet as hell! I love em, very cool!

Mottz 12-08-2012 08:35 AM

Thanks fo rthe compliments guys! I'm trying to figure out some new ideas for some different plaques. Any suggestions? By the way, where has everyone gone? Getting kind of quiet on here. Theres a big cold front coming in tonight so I'll be heading out here shortly for a hunt. Tomorrow is going to be 9 degrees with 30+ mph winds. Think I'll stay in bed for that one.
