I am not doing this skull myself. Normally we bury ours in the ground for 3 months and then simmer them it usually turns out pretty good. But I am gonna have the guy who is doing the water transfer printing do the skull his way so he gets the results he wants. I love the arrow head by the way. thats an awesome display.

Hey Guys...haven't visited the board for awhile, but I see there's been some scoring going on! Congrats to all! My last day on the refuge was eventful. I had a 10pt quartering away at 25 yds, took my shot...look good, sounded better! Could see my arrow sticking out of the ground at an odd angle. Got down and saw it barely had blood, but had alot of tissue on it. Went to the last spot I saw him and had good blood. Trailed (mostly on my hands and knees (unbelievably thick!)) for approx 3 hours and lost blood and battery power. My son went out the next morning and couldn't pick up the trail. Really sucks, great deer. After analyzing the shot, I think it may have been quartering more than I thought and I knicked the forward part of the the shoulder.

BUT

The camper is packed and I'm leaving tonight for a week on the farm! Good luck all!

TX_Hoghunter 11-09-2012 10:04 AM

Good luck at your farm and sorry to hear about the lost buck. If the arrow went between the shoulder and the ribs he might still be a live

Word is team 7 has a good buck on the ground. lets keep the pressure on them! I just know Snapper is gonna be posting some pictures of a big ass 9 pointer here any day!!! good luck this weekend guys.

LittleChief 11-12-2012 05:39 AM

Well guys, I didn't even get a good look at a big buck in Ohio, but I was determined not to come home empty handed. I managed to take a 93" buck and two does while I was there. I really thought he would go 110 or better when I saw him, but that may have been because I had seen so many small bucks. I've never seen anything like it. The small bucks were everywhere. Honestly, I saw 10 bucks for every doe that I saw. I'm kicking myself for passing on a 120-ish seven point on Monday. If I had known it was going to be the biggest buck I saw I would have shot him. Oh well, I had a great time.

I posted the kills on the score thread. I hope it helps the team!

henson59 11-12-2012 05:57 AM

As long as you had a great time thats all that matter. Also just by puting points on the board you have helped the team! "ground Shrinkage" has happened to us all. I know a few years ago I killed a buck with my shotgun that I just knew was going to be 130 and when I got down and put my hands on the rack I realized 110 was all he was gonna get me.

good job on the 3 deer!

snapper1982 11-12-2012 06:13 AM

Thanks. I was hunting in Gallia county. I can't even remember the name of the little town we were close to. It was a great looking location.

Good luck. Today, tomorrow and Wednesday should be fantastic days up there.

good job on the 3 deer!

Thanks, buddy. I don't feel bad at all. All I regret is not getting a chance to even get a good look at one of the big ones I knew were in the area. I got a glimpse of one of them chasing down in the bottom. The doe was running full-bore and I saw the huge deer chasing her. He was a good 200 yards down through the thick stuff and I still saw the antlers first. He was a monster, and he wasn't just grunting,... he was literally bawling for that doe to stop. As they went through, two other bucks, one from each side, came from behind me and charged into the fray. It was pretty awesome.

I will have a score to submit tommorrow but here he is. Does the Team captain submit them for us. If so It might be best for me to e-mail him the pic and the score and let him post it properly.

henson59 11-12-2012 08:21 AM

Thanks, it was my first buck with a bow. 12 years of bow hunting. Let me get the score and I think I can do it. They have made the site a lot eaier now to submit pics than I remember. He was around 200lbs I would guess, probably 4 1/2 years.

That's a great buck! Congratulations! I wish something like that would have shown itself this past week. Good job!

I have sent you a PM in case you need my email. This is a year of firsts. I shot my first bow buck this year too! What a great feeling to finally get one on the ground. Great job

henson59 11-12-2012 08:47 AM

Ok boys I just added up all the scores that have been submitted and Chasin' Tail is in 1st place right now :barmy: with the defending champs "Buck U" right on our A$$ just 10 points behind! Team 7 has put a big buck on the ground. might be a 160 class deer :jaw: but when we get Alltlk's buck added in we should still be in great shape!

Lets keep up the great work we are doing!

snapper1982 11-12-2012 02:30 PM

ok guys i have been holding out showing anyone but here is the big basic 8 point

snapper1982 11-12-2012 02:33 PM

ok tonight really sucked. walking in i stopped to check a cam and it is gone but the stand is still there so i walk on down to my blind set my stuff inside and head over to check the cam and it is gone also. wtf for real 2 cams missing and my stand and ground blind are still there. i have a strong suspision that this was an inside job.

henson59 11-12-2012 03:55 PM

Well first off let me say that the picture of that 8 point will be in my dreams! wow what a deer!!!!!

Secondly that really sucks about the cameras. you may have to put up a camera to watch your camera. But you know what would really make you feel better....holding that 8 point! I would give somebody all my cameras if I could have a shot at him!!!!

snapper1982 11-12-2012 05:13 PM

you are right about him. i was gonna pull off the place but then i seen he had shown up again so i dont care about a couple hundred bucks in cameras. this isnt the first pics we have of him but i dnt think he is living right there either. i measured him off his ear and if it is 8 inch like most big deer then he is around 170 frame with 10 inch of stickers(4 of them) of course that is guessing his mass and using 4 pics to try and get his beam length which is still a guesstimate but i know how to score and i feel solid that he will push the 180 mark

Little Cheif
Congrats on the buck and 2 doe's ,sounds like you had a blast, sorta like fishing huh! Don't get a bite it gets boring, hahahaha. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!!! :s6:
3 weeks ago I was sitting on my chair with my feet up and my granddaughter pulled me back and onto my shoulder. Ever since I have had trouble lifting it over my shoulder hight. This after noon I was on stand and the truth came to light. Big bull moose jumps the fence and I pray for him to come to papa. He was on cue and stopped at 10 yards for 5 minutes as I drew or tried to draw my bow 4 times. Shoulder felt like it was going to pop. I just about cried ,not for the pain but for my season has ended.
I'm 57 and have never had a injury to hold me out of any competition, I feel brutal ,after all the scouting and big buck sightings and every thing I put into what I love, and God says your done! When the peak is just about to start,:bash: Sorry guys, I'll stick around for support.
Rocky

henson59 11-13-2012 05:49 AM

Rocky,

Don't worry about it. these things happen and we are just glad your ok. just rest and ya never know maybe you might be better on the last day of the season and you go bag a big one!

UFunny2 11-13-2012 06:36 AM

Things looking great for team! Congrats all! Rocky, sorry about your injury...hope you have a speedy recovery.

I'm still at the farm, seeing lots of doe and many small bucks. Not much rut sign, few scrapes, but no chasing. Don't know if colder weather will trigger it, has been mid 70s past couple days and forcasted to high of 40s-50s rest of the week. Trying a new stand placement tomorrow....area looks extremely promising. Good luck all

crazedbowhunter 11-13-2012 10:05 AM

Great job everybody with putting down some deer! Also sorry about the injury too, that must kill not to be able to get out and hunt. Anyways this past weekend I made it back down to maryland for my second hunt of the season, never saw a thing saturday night but sunday night I managed to tag 2 does and a average 8 point (probably around 100 inches) in 49 minutes. By no means is he the big one I missed earlier this season but I couldn't pass this guy up with a second buck tag and then having my 2 does needed to shoot a second buck. I can't upload pics to photobucket for some reason so if someone would like to enter my picture for the contest I can email it to you. Good luck to all who haven't tagged anything yet.

henson59 11-13-2012 10:48 AM

Great job! I sent you a PM with my email. Just get your numbers and pictures and email them to me and I will take care of it. Make sure the pics have you the deer and your BOW in it.

Alltlk4 11-13-2012 10:54 AM

I submitted my buck. Not quite 125 but it will do. I will try to get out and get us a doe as well.

Congrats guys on getting game down, let's go #10
Rocky :barmy:

henson59 11-14-2012 06:36 AM

Well bowhunting is on hold for the next week or so. I leave tomorrow for the IL shotgun season and then I am heading down to Indiana to try and take a couple does during their firearm season. :fighting0007:

This will be the second year I get to use my savage 220 bolt action. I hit the range a few weeks ago and was grouping pretty solid at 160yards. I was pretty good from 200 yards but i just don't know if I trust that far of a shot yet with a shotgun. It is amazing what they can do with a 20 gauge shotgun these days.

Good luck to any of you guys that will still be bowhunting. Keep up the great work and remember everybody needs to knock a doe down!!!!!

snapper1982 11-14-2012 03:39 PM

henson i will be in IL next week filming. and really to call them shotguns is wrong. i call them rifles because that is exactly what it is. you have a 20 gauge rifle. while not the saveage i have used the H&R ultra slug hunter in 12 and 20 gauge and both have enough to take a deer at 200. killed a doe at 190 with a 20 gauge and a doe at 227 with a 12. so if you are grouping good at 200 do not be affraid to hammer one.

henson59 11-15-2012 05:16 AM

Snapper back down at the same place filming? Yeah they are rifles! it was hard for me to lay the trusty 870 down but my groomsmen got me this as a wedding gift last year when I got married and I won't ever go back! it is a sweet shooting gun!

It should be a good time this weekend the weather is gonna be perfect. But its alot different then bowhunting down there. I don't look to have much success. This trip is more about family and the fun we have in deer camp. If I get a deer thats just a bonus!!! Shotgun hunting has really taken a back seat to bow hunting and thats just fine by me.

henson59 11-15-2012 06:29 AM

Ray don't forget to email me the picture and your numbers for your buck and doe. I want to keep puting pressure on the other teams. For those of you who havn't looked team 8 has a 160 on the ground. pretty nice buck in the score thread!

snapper1982 11-15-2012 03:53 PM

yes sir same place.

well guys found the big 9 this evening. thought he was a dead buck walking but nope it wasnt to be. had him at 120 yards. i wasnt even hunting just scouting but when i seen him i jumped on the situation and tried to make it happen. he is locked down with a doe chasing her a little and running 2 small bucks off. she is not in yet. they are in a 30-40 acre wood lot that is super thick. actually it is one of the thickets i have spoken about. when i said my blind was on the fence line connecting 2 thicket bedding areas (which is where all the pics of him have been taken). so anyway they went back into the thicket at dark and i grabbed a blind and tucked it in. probably an all day sit tomorrow.

oh what i would have given for it to be gun season with a 12 gauge rifle in my hands!
