[QUOTE=snapper1982;3989578]no that is a solid plan but i would recommend taking more than the 4-6 does. how many acres total(including your neighbors) will be in the over all growing area? what is your deer density?[/QUOTE

with my neighbors land it brings us to around 300 (they have 200 more acres a few miles down the road as well but i don't include that). I am not actually sure of the deer density yet. I have not had a chance to really hang cameras and conduct a true test. I say 4-6 does because I only have 3 tags a year 1 buck and 2 doe. and if i can get them to kill 2 does per hunter that brings us to 6 a year. these are things my neighbor and I will have to sort out.

snapper1982 10-12-2012 07:00 AM

i thought you all are allowed to kill 2 bucks.

if the herd is way off on buck to doe ratio then only killing 3 does will take along time to bring it in order.

i say 3 does because if you all kill 2 does to equal 6 but then you kill a buck each(3) then you have in fact only eliminated 3 extra does not 6.

snapper1982 10-12-2012 07:02 AM

the guy we hunt with in south east Il. does a doe hunt. he will get a few of his buddies together toward the end of season and go there and they kill as many does as they can. that might be something to concider.

henson59 10-12-2012 07:29 AM

yeah that is something to think about. I believe in IN you can only kill 1 buck. In IL I can kill 2 bucks. I am kind of handcuffed because the tag bundle I purchase for Indiana already costs $295 so I really can't afford to purchase more tags.

I still have some planning and research to do. I may have to look into a doe hunt I bet the 2 guys we let hunt the land have buddies who would kill some does.

I have to work this weekend but if the rain holds off on sunday I may be able to get out once.

TX_Hoghunter 10-12-2012 08:16 AM

Sounds like a well thought out plan. Good luck with it.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know I am still out here. I read postings almost everyday but I have nothing to add. I have not been in the woods yet, my fall has been hectic. However I have the first full week of november off and a lot of other days in novemeber and december to get it done. Just wanted to let you guys know that I did not flake out on you. Have fun out there and be safe.

Got out This Morning
Quiet morning till I rattled at 7:30 and with in a few minutes I see antler coming down the trail. Stood, grabbed the bow and then he showed himself. Turned out to be a 120 4x4, let him walk. Was cool because he walked completly around the little parcel of bush I'm in and scent checked all around it too. Thought he'd made me when he went down wind, but the ole scent - loc still works . Be back out tomorrow night. Good luck guys
Rocky

henson59 10-15-2012 09:28 AM

Did anybody get out this weekend? I was on call for work and had to go in both days so no hunting for me.

i had this guy at 15 steps on sat the 6th of oct.... couldnt get a shot.... seeing alot of deer so hopefully just a matter of time... good luck... and congrats to everyone thats scored

henson59 10-15-2012 10:18 AM

Nobody has scored yet. We are still looking for our first points. I have a feeling the end of Oct and the first couple weeks of Nov will be pretty active for us.

crazedbowhunter 10-15-2012 03:28 PM

Well guys I have been pretty busy the last couple weeks working 16+ hour days so haven't even got the chance to take out the bow here in PA yet. Did get to sneak out with my dad for a hour today to push a couple pieces with the inlines for does, and I did push out a nice buck past my dad but he couldn't get a good look at it. Ought to be able to get out here soon with the bow, corn and soybean harvest is in full swing so the deer are losing more and more cover to hide in. Good luck everyone

Rocky

TeamWiscoUNIT61 10-16-2012 06:40 PM

Well boys, I've held off for two weeks waiting for the rut to start getting into swing. I'm heading up this weekend for a quick couple of days and then a 4 day weekend the following. I really think activity should be up these next two weeks and hope I can tip one over for the team.

i will in due time. i have some great hunting areas and know them very well. i could at any time set up and whack a doe. i am waiting for the mature bucks to start checking those does.

TX_Hoghunter 10-17-2012 09:12 AM

Well I have some pictures of some good deer but their movements are all over the place right now. At our lease we have had a lot more rain than normal so it looks like spring time. I will head back in a couple of weeks to try it again.

Great job Mark!!!!! I have a feeling things are gonna start heating up for us. I know a lot of the team does most of its hunting in Nov like I do so lets keep it going!

Make sure you get a picture with you, the deer, and your bow. Post it on the scorecard or send it to me and i can do it.

Team 10 is on the board!

henson59 10-18-2012 05:29 AM

Ron thats a nice looking buck! How old do you think he is? I think he looks fairly mature

snapper1982 10-18-2012 06:50 AM

he is a 4.5 year old. we try not to shoot them until they are 5 or older. a very nice deer no doubt but a deer i hope to live another year.

UFunny2 10-21-2012 08:13 AM

Am I the only meat hunter on this team? I thought by now almost everyone would have harvested a doe for the freezer. I killed my second doe yesterday, after passing up a young 7 point. First week of the season I was seeing lots of bucks together, this past week I noticed they're traveling solo. After 8 outings, I have had 31 deer under 20 yards. Seeing many and having a blast!!!

snapper1982 10-21-2012 04:16 PM

nother new buck

Hey I have been a meat hunter the last 7 years,I haven't had a doe except one with twin fawns early in September. I let her walk but on Saturday morning she walked past at 60 yards and I would have shot her if the opertunity would have presented her. I used to be a Bigbuck hunter for about 10 years ,got them and then I had family and then they too needed meat. I went 5 years with out shooting a 170 or less buck. That was my standard, still haven't broke the 200 inch mark but am confident it'll happen one day.Till then I'll keep arrowing anything better than 130, which is almost every third deer up here . I try to take 2 does ,2 bucks and a moose a season. Moose is almost a no go now unless he walks by my stand as there rutt finished last week. Best of luck on the rest of your season .
Rocky

henson59 10-22-2012 05:58 AM

Above all I am a meat eater. Including this weekend I have only had a shot at 3 deer and they were triplets and still had some spots.

I have seen several deer its just none have come into bow range. If I had my savage 220 in my hand :fighting0007: I would have already killed out. The main issue I am having right now besides a crazy work and home schedule is that my main bow hunting spot still has a bunch of corn standing within 300 yards of it. This weekend I watched 2 big bucks just walk along the edge of the corn for about 45 minutes. We've been having decent rain so its slowing harvest. I am taking a trip down to southern IL this coming weekend for a 3 day hunt. I should hopefully come back with at least a doe.

TX_Hoghunter 10-22-2012 09:45 AM

Been the worse hunting season of my life so far. 90% of the time we have a wind out of the south so most of my stuff is setup with that in mind. This season almost every time I have been at the lease we have had winds out of the north. I had been on the lease the weekend of 10/13. We had north winds. Since then we have had nothing but south winds.....I was planning on hunting again the weekend of 10/27...guess what...40% chance of rain and f'ing north winds again......LOL. I just can't catch a break.

henson59 10-24-2012 07:44 AM

Well I am leaving friday morning for a nice 3 day camping/hunting trip down on the farm in S. IL and let me tell you Friday can't get here fast enough. It's terrible how work just drags by when you have an extended weekend! :bash:

Weather report says 60% chance of rain friday but saturday and sunday are looking awesome! highs in the mid 50's and lows in the mid-upper 30's. No rain!
I used to spend my summers down on the farm with my grandparents when I was a kid. They have since passed away and now my cousin owns the property. It's really where I discovered my love of hunting and the outdoors. It will be good to relax and just relive some of those memories I had as a kid quail hunting along the fence rows with my dad and just running around in the woods with my old savage over under squirrel and rabbit hunting.

The action should be starting to pick up so good luck to everybody and lets make sure we get out and hunt when we can so we can get some brown on the ground! Enjoy your time in the woods guys I know this weekend I will!

youngfart 10-25-2012 12:48 PM

Snapper
That's a good 160 buck , good luck with him.
Rocky

snapper1982 10-25-2012 02:21 PM

yeah he a good deer wish he could make it one more year though look at his body 4.5 yr old. but i know the neighbors will whack him if they get the chance so i plan to kill him if given the chance. as soon as i can post the other buck i will he is a big guy too.

snapper1982 10-26-2012 01:16 PM

well i set up a blind yday for the big guy and thats when i checked the cam and posted the pic of him yeaterday. so i come in here this evening and switch out cam cards and climb in the blind. slip the card in and just last night there was 4 bucks through here all with in 20 yds of my blind. and yes the big guy came through. we have a cold front so hopefully he will slip through this evening during light. stay tuned team.

snapper1982 10-26-2012 04:01 PM

well he didnt show up but here is pics of him from last night. notice to the right in the brush in the background is my blind

henson59 10-27-2012 01:04 PM

Well I put a small doe on the ground this morning. Its been such a slow season for me and the fact that I am out of deer meat helped me make the decision to shoot her or else i would have kept holding out for a shooter buck first. It looks like blue tongue has really put a hurting on the deer down in this area so when i come back for shotgun season it might be pretty damn tough.

youngfart 10-27-2012 08:00 PM

Henson
Congrats on the doe, A Doe is a Doe plus we need the points, great job. I was out this am and had 5 does come in from the bedding area when they should have been out in the feilds coming to me to the bedding area. Got busted and then as I turn to hang my bow a Red Fox scoots bye. Went out tonight to give my Heater Body Suit a try. The wind was high and it was only -5 but felt like -20, only had my rubber boots on and summmer clothing. Toasty as could be,can't wait till it's -30 out to use . I might just choose to use it anyways, just something else to carry in. Keeps my antlers quiet at least. Keep it up guys the good time is only weeks away.
Rocky

snapper1982 10-28-2012 05:50 AM

congrats henson.. i will be out again this evening.
