well guys i got in the blind this morning. great morning. about 820 had 2 big does and a yearling come past at 46 yds then the small 8 point that was hanging around the big guy last night came past at 46 yds but then nothing followed so i am sitting here and at 856 there he is walking what i believe is the same 46 yds and he is walking fast. so i got to make quick decissions. stop him and shoot for 46 of try and range him which i only got a very tight shooting lane. i chose to shoot for 46. i stopped him and let er go. i cud swear i heard the thump and the srrow hit corn stalks behind the beast but he didnt mule kick he spun hard and bolted tail down 80 yds to the woods. he stopped and looked back and slowly walked in. so at 856 am i did one of 3 things.
i missed
i wounded
i killed a great beast

stay tuned for the out come

snapper1982 11-16-2012 09:07 AM

well he isnt dead and not wounded yep i missed. he was 37 yards according to his hoof marks. ugh i am so discouraged with myself. it appears the thump/smack i heard was the arrow striking a corn stalk. good news is that i know where he is and there is a bunch of does in there so good chance i will get another shot

TX_Hoghunter 11-16-2012 09:19 AM

Hang in there. it happens to all of us at some point.

snapper1982 11-16-2012 03:10 PM

problem is i think it is gonna happen again to me lol. no really it happens i aint to bent over it. on a good note sat the blind this evening and he came out with the does so as long as they are there he is staying. i will be in the show room again in the am.

UFunny2 11-16-2012 04:50 PM

Last night at the farm. Shot a doe last night and another tonight, will look for it in the am. Heard her fall. Not seeing any large bucks. Seeing some shooters in the fields after dark, they've diffenitly gone nocturnal.

dubcee 11-16-2012 10:07 PM

Tex
Looks great ,how many hours did it take to get it done?
Rocky

TX_Hoghunter 11-18-2012 04:55 AM

Thanks. Not really a lot of man hours in the way I do it. I skin the head and take out the eye...so 30 - 45 minutes. I out the head in a bucket with some rid-X. For folks not in the country and on a septic system it is stuff you put down your toilet to help your septic system works better. I also raise tropicl fish so I keep the head in my fish house which I keep at 85 degrees. If you kept it cooler it would take longer. Once it has rotted pretty well you can flush it with clean water and most of the meat/brains will come off/out. So 20 minutes flushing it. Next you put is in a bucket of clean water with dawn dish washing soap. I use an aquarium air stone and heater to keep the water moving and warm so 10 minutes for setup. After a couple of days you take it out and let it dry so 5 minutes. Next you go to a beauty supply housr and get some 40% peroxide cream and a packet of whitening powder. Cost about $8.00. Cover the skull with it in a warm spot and about 3 hours later rinse it and you are done. So vert little cost or man hours in my method. I also made the plauge it is on but I did it while I was watching my Aggies beat Alabama so not sure on the time.

Here is my buck from last year. I did a different display on him.

I guess I should have looked for her that evening. Went out the next morning and found her about 40 yards from the shot. Unfortunately, the coyotes found her first! When headed back to camp, I saw a really nice boy that would go about 140. Had a really good look with the headlights. G2's would be about 14". Saw him again the next morning about 300 yards away as I was breaking camp. I plan on going back there Friday...

henson59 11-18-2012 02:20 PM

Well I am back from my shotgun trip to S. IL and I have to say it was a pretty good one. Snapper was right about my 20 gauge rifle. I shot a Doe on Friday night at 150 yards in a cut bean field. Then on Saturday morning I took an 8 pointer at 200 yards in this standing bean field I was sitting next to. He went 20 yards and crashed. I was so suprised that if I were sitting in a tree I would have had to hold onto it so I wouldn't fall out. LOL!!!

Alltlk4 11-20-2012 05:25 AM

Nice Job Henson. 200 yards, not bad! Last day of Rifle season here in missouri.

Congrats on the deer.

snapper1982 11-21-2012 04:18 PM

congrats henson. they are truly awesome fireaarms. what county was that in

youngfart 11-22-2012 06:26 PM

Henson59
Congrats on the buck, well I might have good news for my self. I've been trying every day to draw my bow back. The pain is just a token of my badd ass attitude in never say never. Well after trying my main bow and not being abel to do it, I tried the ole back up, she came back 4 succesful times in a row. Wow is all I could say and when the wife walked in the door she got the blunt of bad news as she would say! I'm hunting this weekend and for 5 days next weekend! So I guess the Christmas decorations will have to wait. I'm still treating this as I can't draw it back because doing it in the warmth of the indoors is a totaly different environment than being out in -25 and trying it! Wish me luck guys, I'll give it my best to nock one down. It's the weekend of December 1,2,3 & 4th that has me tickeled pink. I always have my best luck then with the bigger bucks. I just hope none of the shot gunners have nocked down DDTx4.
Rocky

henson59 11-23-2012 06:55 PM

Snapper it was in Wayne County. And Rocky GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Has anybody been out? How is everything going?

youngfart 11-24-2012 12:36 PM

Morning Sit

Hey Hey
Just got in,what a great morning, quiet sit but inspiring. Had a soft snow coming down and at 9:30 I rattled and I heard that dreadful sound of steps coming in behind me. I turned so slowley and at 15 yards was a young 5x5 about a 120 maybe! So glad it wasn't a good one. Then I just sat back and enjoyed my time on stand till 11:30 and rattled once more and in came a little 2x2. Deer were up moviing as I heard them on the other property which is a stones throw away. Just found out were having a Bday supper tomorrow for my Son. So I'll be just out for the morning again. Was looking forward to an all day sit. Won't be out till next weekend after tomorrow. Good luck team!
Rocky :cool2:
Here's the 2x2 http://

TX_Hoghunter 11-25-2012 01:35 PM

Well I never got on a doe on this trip. We ended up coming back a day early. No need to worry I will get a doe before the season here is up but I had other priorities on this trip. Our middle daughter was in from college and I wanted to get her on a deer. I thought she was going to shoot a doe but she had other things on her mind.......

snapper1982 11-25-2012 04:15 PM

hey guys i am still out in illinois it is fun but i am ready to go home. tomorrow opens gun season but i am going to miss it heck might miss the whole week. guy i am filming decided to not go home til he tags one or til next sunday which ever happens first. and to top it off i heard of a big deer hit by a car right where the big 9 has been so he may be dead i am so frusturated

youngfart 11-25-2012 05:25 PM

Hey Tex
Give your daughter a great big pat on the back ,great buck huh! Her grin tells all.
Snapper
Suck it up and get back in the game ,it happens every day, specialy in my neibourhood when you can use a crossbow or shotgun during bow season., I've got 4 sits left, am I going to get it done, I'm not sure if I'll be able to draw again when the time comes, if it comes. That's bowhunting and that's what makes me tick, the adrenilin rush of a buck aproaching and the suspense of getting a shot opertunity. Good luck guys, knock one down for the team!
Rocky

Donald522 11-26-2012 12:19 AM

henson59 11-26-2012 06:42 AM

Snapper don't drink the water down there. Before you know it you will be a "local" haha!!!!!

Tex she sure bagged a real nice buck. thats great!

And Rocky those people are spammers they aren't really checking in.

TX_Hoghunter 11-28-2012 11:30 AM

Thanks guys. I am sure proud of her.

-john

snapper1982 11-30-2012 04:57 AM

tx congrats to your daughter.

henson i felt like a local as long as i was there just got home yesterday. we killed a nice buck the outfitter said was 4.5 (looks 3.5 to me) but only had one browl tine about an inch and nothing on the other side so he really wanted it taken out and when it came out of the thicket and my hunter said shooter i was on him.(ready to come home!)heading out to hunt a little this evening.

i swung past the farm with the big 9 and apparently someone did not like me hunting there my blind and chair was laying in the feild and not because of the wind. lol. so i drove back and picked them up. and the moron did not see my cam (about 8 foot high on a limb) so i got 6 pics of the guy that did it. unfortunatly he had on a face mask so i have no idea who it is.

i also got word that a group did a push on the other side of the road and hit a monster buck. watched it cross the road and lay down in the thicket by my blind. one guy slipped in and jumped it. it ran 50 yards and layed down again. they backed out. waited a few hours and went back and the deer was gone. and i have no details about what this buck or the one hit by the car look like so i have no idea if he is dead or not.

on a side note i told my buddy about the guy on cam and sent him the pics. pics were taken at about the same time as the deer that was shot up and disappeared so there is speculation that the guy took the deer.

Yeah you were probably one step away from taking the tires off your truck and putting it up on blocks. Its a good thing your hunter shot something.

My dad just called me and he is heading home from is hunt in Wayne county. He said he woke up at 3am to the sound of a bunch of 4 wheelers running the area. I just don't understand why people are so stupid. oh well at least I finally was able to put together a great season with 5 deer. I am still going to get out with my bow because the big buck I had been seeing in august and sept. is still out there and we really need to meet!

Good luck guys and don't forget to get a picture of you the deer and your bow!!!!!! We are still in a position to win this so keep hunting hard!

youngfart 12-01-2012 07:45 AM

Full Day Sit
Made it throught the day in -22 weather with a windchill of -30 . Didn't see a thing till 2:30 had a good 140 buck walk in behind me at 18 yards. By the time I turned to see him he was already in my shooting lane. As I put my bow up to draw, he walked off. Then nothing till last light, at 4:40 out they came in single file, 7 does, 3 mature and to sets of fawns. Was feeling warm right about then cause I knew a buck would be walking out any second.
I stood to lower my heater body suit and grab the bow ,the 1st doe up came eye to eye with me and she just glared. Nose up and decided to turn away and walk away from me. The other 5 followed suit, I knew I counted 7 but I could be wrong. Anyways no buck showed and I started rolling up my Heater Body Suit and then I heard a stomp. I lifted my head ,only to see the white flag of the 7th doe.Great day and it was awseome to be back out hunting.
Woke up this morning to my shoulder hurting real bad, I forgot my pills last night so I'll head out this afternoon after they take affect. Good luck guys. Just hope if the shot oppertunity presents it self that I'll be able to draw my bow.:s13:

snapper1982 12-01-2012 01:50 PM

well good news is the big 9 is alive

bad news is tomorrow is his last day to live. un fortunatly guys i will be using a gun.

i decided to not hunt this evening but instead to sit in the truck and watch a wide area to figure out the deer movement or lack there of. well it seems all the deer have been pushed to the one block of thicket where the 9 lives and wouldnt you know it after 30 some deer came out including several bucks with one a very nice 8 point 140 buck he came out and joined them. i was so excited to see him.he walked out of the woods in the same usual spot so tomorrow evening i plan to check mate him for good.

snapper1982 12-02-2012 05:21 AM

well i didmt go out this morning. woke up at 130 am vomitting.plus it is raining here right now but i will be out later but first going to shoot the gun to make sure

henson59 12-02-2012 07:04 AM

Well Snapper as much as want you to get a buck with a bow I really hope you put the lead to this this buck. You have had such an up and down several weeks with this guy you deserve him with or without a bow. Just make sure we get pictures!

I am however holding you to a doe! I need a doe from you.

Good hunting

snapper1982 12-02-2012 07:50 AM

absolutly i will deffinatly kill a doe and who know things might not work out tonight and if not i will be back after him with the bow. just something about this buck has gotten me obcessed with him.

Anyways this past weekend I made it back down to maryland for my second hunt of the season, never saw a thing saturday night but sunday night I managed to tag 2 does and a average 8 point (probably around 100 inches) in 49 minutes. By no means is he the big one I missed earlier this season but I couldn't pass this guy up with a second buck tag and then having my 2 does needed to shoot a second buck. I can't upload pics to photobucket for some reason so if someone would like to enter my picture for the contest I can email it to you. Good luck to all who haven't tagged anything yet.

I still havn't recieved your score and picture via email yet. Please get with me so we can get your score up.

Team we need points. Team Buck U is starting to make a run and we need to stay with them. lets knock some slick heads down and get some bone on the ground! GOOD LUCK!

snapper1982 12-04-2012 07:28 AM

well guys i did not kill him the other night so maybe i will catch up with him with the bow. he is my nemesis. gosh carn it i am so obsessed with this deer. but henson i will try and get out in the next couple days and whack a doe for the points for us. then concentrate on the buck

henson59 12-04-2012 09:28 AM

I don't care when you take your doe. Don't mess up a chance for your 9 point. But if you don't get him he is more then welcome to pick up and migrate down to my place in S. Indiana I would take good care of him!

Shoulder Popped Again
Well my season ended Sunday
Sorry folks been a few years since I ate tag soup, but as it is I tried in vein again on Sunday at 2:30 to draw on a 160ish 6x7. He stood their and didn't know I was their and then walked off after I failed to pull my bow back once again. Went to physio today and the doc their said it was a torn Rotator Cuff IE:subscapularis. He said 6 weeks with little to no lifting to rest it if I want to use it again. He said what I did when I was pulling my bow every day since the 1st time on November 12 was a bad mistake. I'm lucky I didn't tear the muscle from the bone. Well team good luck, your still with in striking distance of the top spot. Brutal year for me, looks like I'm going to buy a buffalo to last till next year. More dollars, better than eating beef. I went down trying at least. Last day of the year is Thursday up here.
Rocky

henson59 12-05-2012 05:48 AM
