Bible_Man 10-03-2011 08:10 AM

Bible Man here and ready to go! Smokepole season for me opens Nov. 5th and rifle Nov. 19th. Out with the bow for the present time. Yeah, Treebeard! Let's lay down some bone, folks!

Alltlk4 10-03-2011 10:21 AM

Alltlk4 checking in. My name is Clay and I am 32. I live in St. Joseph, MO and hunt near Maryville. Our rifle season opens November 12th. What is the earliest anyone on our team's season opens up?

Bible_Man 10-04-2011 10:30 AM

Suppose I didn't properly introduce myself...my name is Jeremy, I am 27 and live in Lawrence County, TN.

deerdust 10-04-2011 07:32 PM

John, Jeremy, Clay, Good to meet yas. I am really hoping to get something good this yr. Last year I did get a mercy buck, small 8 pt during gun season. But I want one of the big boys this year, It is high time. We just leased 300 acres on the Salt River that is just for the Boss and the other Mo Manager and I to hunt on. Lots of good sign on it, even as dry as it is.

npaden 10-05-2011 01:43 PM

Checking in here. I don't post much here on huntingnet.com anymore, but I'll check in periodically and post my deer if I get any.

My property here in Texas burned up this year so not sure exactly how that is going to work out, I'm getting plenty of deer coming to my protein feeder, but they are all after dark and I don't have much cover left on the property since it all burned up. I'll still hunt it a few times though.

I'll be hunting New Mexico pretty hard this year, it's only a 5 day season there, but I've killed a 181" and 147" mule deer the last two years there and the nonresident rules changed this year so I'm hoping to knock down something decent this year.

Good luck everyone.

Nathan

Still 3 more to check in. We need to pick a Team Captain, Team Name, and create a Team Logo. Count me out for being the team captain, as I am fixing to get very busy. I will help whoever ya'll pick, and approve of whoever wants to step into the spotlight.

If anyone can create logos, feel free to do something for our team.

As far as team names, everyone put your thinking caps on and lets see what we can come up with.

Treebeard 10-14-2011 01:22 AM

Well how about seeing it is gun contest for deer maybe something like Scraping The Bottom Of The Barrel or just Scraping The Bottom?
I must have saw that name somewhere so maybe it is in use but just a thought

Sorry guys been working and hunting I will stop in once a night from now on got laid off so looks like i will be enjoying a lot of hunting until i get hired hopefully after the rut:) I went hunting today seen 14 deer mostly does and just one small buck drawed back on a doe she was at 14 to 15 yards and providing a perfect shot as luck would have it i drew back and the peep sight stuck on the reverse side so i couldnt see out of it so I .let off and redrew it finaly it started working but decided to pass on the deer looked like a yearling and right now im out for something heavy and meaty. But I still had a great time anytime i see that many deer in less then an hour I am happy.

I am terrible at team names but I will throw out Runnin' & Gunnin' since it is a rifle contest. That is all I got and won't feel bad if you think it is dumb.

Treebeard 10-21-2011 12:57 PM

Hey I hate to say this but lets just choose a name and get it up!

Team #2 is a fine name in my opinion and I have no preference on the team captain. With that said if someone wants to come up with a team name that is fine with me too. Having a team captain in the past I don't think it actually requires anything other than posting your name on the team captains thread for this contest. Maybe hassling other team members to post their picture on the contest thread correctly, but it's not like the turkey contests where the team captains are the ones who submit the pictures and scores or anything like that.

Just a few weeks away from my New Mexico mule deer hunt. I hope I kill a big one!

Here's a couple pictures of the two that I've shot over there the last two years.

2009 - This one scored 181".

2010 - This one scored 147".

I've been on 2 winning teams in the 4 years I've been in this contest, pretty much all you have to do is get about 1/2 the team to shoot a deer and get their picture taken correctly with you and the gun in the picture. Seems that a score around 600" wins every year.

I'll try to do my part!

Good luck everyone. Nathan

Muzzleloader opens for me this Saturday! Looking forward to it. Bucks are starting to show interest in the ladies in these parts...some good pre-rut action oughta be in store for the next couple of weeks!

I will also cast my lots with Alltlk4 for team captain.

This is an 8pt a 16 yr old client got with bow a few days ago. It green scored 141 6/8

Bible_Man 11-03-2011 09:36 AM

That is a beauty of a buck, DD! I bet that was fun getting it with a teenager. And I hope you get his daddy or uncle in the next little bit! My wife and I will be going out with the smoke pole Saturday, and she has already said that if a big boy comes by, she wants me to shoot it. I would prefer her to, so we shall see what happens. Saturdays are about the only day she can go, though, so I will have plenty of time to log on my own regardless. Good luck, all!

Treebeard 11-05-2011 06:59 PM

Well here it is gang I head north tomorrow morning for the first week of the gun season
Actually same spot as my avatar pic
My 25 06 is dialed in shootin 1' groups and I am pumped :)
I will keep ya posted if I can but if not I will talk to ya next Sunday
Later

npaden 11-06-2011 07:41 AM

I lost my camera for now, but hopefully I'll get it found and be able to post some more pictures and update some more information.

Went solo this time and ended up tagging out on opening day.

Not the biggest buck I've ever shot but pretty respectable. One of the first sheds I've ever found out there in the Sandhills and crazy that it sure looks like a match for the buck I ended up shooting.

Here's some pictures from my phone.

Only 13 miles on the boots yesterday when it was all said and done.

I'll get it scored and just to be safe take a picture with the head and my rifle in case we don't end up finding my camera.

npaden 11-06-2011 12:03 PM

Found the camera and am getting it mailed to me. My friend sent me a couple of the pictures so I'll post those as well though. He didn't score as well as I would have thought. 149 3/8 after I lose a couple inches because his inside spread was more than his main beams. For this contest I only get 86% for that because it was a mule deer so that will count as 128.5 for the contest.

Here's the scoresheet:

Here's the official contest picture with me and the gun in the picture.

I think this is the picture that ended up coming out the best.

Always tricky taking timed pictures off your backpack. The wind was blowing so hard it blew the camera off my backpack a few times!

Always a chance to do better with Texas whitetail, but this at least gets us started.

jrbsr 11-06-2011 01:57 PM

Congratulations npaden,
You daman.
Thats a nice buck.

deerdust 11-06-2011 07:46 PM

npaden great job on getting it done. Congrats to you!!

Bible_Man 11-07-2011 07:30 AM

Nice one, man! Really good buck.

npaden 11-07-2011 08:50 AM

Thanks for the comments, I'm happy with him.

Don't forget to take pictures if you shoot a doe guys. They are worth 50 points this year!
