Hey guys still trying to get a bird on the ground, no luck yet. I missed a shot at a nice bird 8 1/2 or 9 inch bearded Merriam, I called him right in and missed, thats the first time I have ever missed, too much confidence I guess!
You know the story about the deer hunter indisposed and a deer comes in? Well it happened to me, I was indisposed and low and behold GOBBLE GOBBLE! one tom, a Jake, and a bunch of hens!
I was trying to head them off, didn't think they where coming and so..... well they showed up I had no shot so I spooked em back up hill and knew where to set up on them. They came my way again and just as I was starting to shoot tom went out of sight thinking something just wasn't right. Next day they flew right into private property and are staying hened up all day. I am hoping to try again next weekend.
I did meet some really nice hunters out and saw a nice black bear, it is really something to be hunting the same area bears are and walk over their tracks on the trail.
This area is great I see elk and big horns daily and normally it has a lot of gobblers, not so many this year and I have never seen them hened up all day, I get closer the hens take em away.
