Well what a let down on my kid that I was to take today. Got up at 4:30 this morning and was at his house at 5 to pick him up and no one was up, his dad finally got up and said he was not going this weekend. He will have to hunt the regular season i guess.
I heard no less then 15 birds gobbling in one of my areas on friday morning. I will be back in that area in the morning to listen again and will be hunting on monday morning here in Iowa.
Where did everyone go? Lets all get fired up its turkey time guys!

I wasn't able to get out till 11 am today .I herd 3 toms answer my call so i set up buy the feeding area.Then I called some more and could tell they were gettin closer when I herd boom and boom!!!!! 2 guys hunting the gamelands were set up about a half mile from me.My property boarders the gamelaands and thats where i called 3 hens in from on easter sunday.so i waited about an hr for everything to settle down it was 2 oclock by now and i started calling again got 1 answer so I stayed where I was 40 min went by not a sound gave some soft clucks and a hen answers and another and another lol.I think it was the same 3 as mentioned earlier lol.Ihad them around till about 3 :30 or so and nothing else showed never herd another gobble all night. I tryed to get a shock gobble off the roost but no luck ...hope am brings better luck.

Well team I guess i got us started, at 9:00am this morning a harvested a good one. I had turkeys in all directions as they started gobbling this morning. I had three to the north that i was working and they would come to about 75 yards and go back to the hens, had they came a few more yards they would have seen my decoy setup and probably came on in but they would never break the hill. I waited till they moved off again and moved up to the hilltop and called thats when one from the south started getting fired up again. He came right in and left in my game bag.
he was a dandy to.
25.0 lbs
10.75" beard = 21.50
1.375" spur = 13.75
1.375 spur = 13.75
Total = 74

That is a great bird camokenny. He has some major hooks on him. You really set the bar high for our team
. congrats I just looked at the scores and you have the biggest bird so far!
Our season starts tomorrow there is no way that I will be able to go but Thursday I am planning on going. I have been seeing some nice toms, hopefully I can get a hold of the farmer who own it. He has been pretty busy planting corn and stuff.

Way to go, Kenny!! My season doesn't start until the 19th. I'm headed out Saturday with my son for the youth day (although they're calling for pretty high winds). I've been out scouting several times already and have heard a fair number of birds and have patterned one in particular on some public land. I'm hoping the weather holds and I can get my son on that bird Saturday. Does anyone have much advice for hunting in high winds? I have a boat paddle that I'll use to try and get loud for the birds, but should I focus on creek bottoms and places the birds could go to get out of the wind?
