Nope. I still have til the end of May. Doesn't mean I'm going to get anything but there is a chance.

Cool. At least we have another gun out there.

zubba 05-08-2011 02:57 PM

I'm not sure if I will get out again. There is an archery tourney I'm planning to shoot in next weekend. Plus, if i need to upgrade by 7 points, that would meam I would have to shoot about a 70 point gobbler, which would be super tough. We still had a good time though. Maybe Mottz will slip out and shoot a gobler. Good Luck.

kellyguinn 05-08-2011 03:08 PM

I'm still looking at headed north to Kansas or Nebraska. Looks like the OT at work is going to slow up for a few weeks so if I can find a spot there is an outside chance to head that way. I got my fingers crossed anyway.

Still its been a great season and I can't wait till the next.

J76 a 5 lb walleye would score very high in my books. We don't have many down here but we do have a few saugeye lurking around and either one would get my taste buds going. Definatly the best tasting fish to me.

j76 05-08-2011 07:39 PM

7 pts!!!!!!!!! Dang, hate to put pressure on Mottz and Kelly, but............. :fighting0007:Now i'm ticked i shot that jake!!!!
Oh well, the few times i've been since i shot it i sure couldn't have done any better.

Well if ya guys manage to get out after em, best of luck to ya and if not, we sure made the team or teams that beat us have to work awful hard to do it!!! I think everybody on the team busted their butts this year! :party0005: Congrats on an awsome season everybody!!!

Iowa Jaybird 05-09-2011 05:40 AM

Well, heard about some property this morning. Hopefully, it has Turkeys and I get permission. Then I'll have to change my day off to Tuesday, which is the only day without Thunderstorms this week. A long shot, but a shot. The thing about Iowa birds are most run 60's or better, so hopefully I get a chance to hunt.

kellyguinn 05-09-2011 03:30 PM

Good luck Jay. Hope ya get a shot at one.

Mottz 05-09-2011 06:57 PM

Good luck to ya Iowa. You also kelly, I hope you can still get out. Since I missed this last weekend, I'm for sure going out this weekend. Not sure when though. I still want to win this thing so I'm not giving up yet.

j76 05-10-2011 04:01 AM

It's cool to see you guys are stickin with it and still trying!!! I know for me, after a couple hard weeks of hunting, it's tough to keep at it. You have all put in a lot more time than that!!

Mottz, would love to see ya nail another! Wouldn't take a very big bird to get the job done for us either. Best of luck to ya!

Kelly, hows the out of state hunt lookin? Man i'll be jealouse if ya get to go!! Always been a dream of mine to get to do that! With the contest being as tight as it is, if all was right with the world and i was workin good, i'd be pushin real hard to try and do the same! Maybe join ya out there!! That would be a blast!!!

Iowa, you gotta be the hardest workin man in the turkey huntin bussiness! Hope the new prop works out for ya bud!!

Shows a lot of dedication to the sport and the team that all 3 of ya are still out there tryin to get it done!! You guys rock!!!!

j76 05-10-2011 07:24 AM

Looks like we just dropped to 3rd place. Team 13 has us by 34.37 pts

Man, in the last month I've had 3 people mention land that I know well, and none of them came thru for me. Really ticks me off. Don't even mention it, unless you are going to follow thru on the matter. I absolutely have squat to hunt tomorrow, and it could at best only be a morning hunt with the weather prediction of thunderstorms. I'm so ticked if there was any way I could get 3 days off in a row I'd head back to Kansas.

j76 05-12-2011 03:48 AM

Well Jay, you had a successful season none the less!! It can be frustating to not be able to find the birds in your go-to spots, beleive me i know!! I have had that prob the last couple yrs. But you filled some tags and thats the important thing. I guess if we could just hammer big ole hosses every yr it might take some of the fun out of it. Hopefully next yr will bring better birds and weather!!!

j76 05-12-2011 04:02 AM

Been kinda quiet in here, Mottz, you gonna make it out this weekend??
Kellyguinn, hows the Kansas/Nebraska thing looking?

Found out the other day the farmer that owns 3 of my hunting spots is working up feilds and planting corn this yr! The 2 spots that i hunt turkey hasn't had any crops on them in about 5 yrs. Should make for some awsome deer hunting this fall and hopefully get the turkeys back into these areas for next spring.

So, 4 months to fill the freezer with walleye, 2 months to top it off with venison, a long winters nap, and we will be right back here again!!! And I ain't settlin for no stinkin jake again next yr either!!!!

zubba 05-12-2011 05:25 AM

Just checking in. I won't be making it out this weekend. Season closes Sunday. I'm going to be shooting in an archery tournament. If I haven't filled a tag already, I would skip the tourney to hunt birds. Good Luck to anyone still chasing.

kellyguinn 05-12-2011 04:20 PM

Welp, Just got mandatoried to work this weekend. If It happens again next week then the Kansas/Nebraska trip will have to wait till next year when I can get the vacation scheduled ahead of time. Wouldn't mind hitting my land here for a few days then up to Kansas for a few then Nebraska for the rest of the Vac. I'll have to start planning now for something like that though and talk the wifey into joining me. She is just starting to get the hunting bug since she took her first deer this last November. lol Don't think she really knows that there isn't a cure.

Good luck to ya Jay. Hope ya have a good time out there today.

Iowa Jaybird 05-12-2011 05:37 PM

I got thunderstormed out in Iowa, but looking to maybe hunt the last 3 days of May in Kansas. We'll see, but I just want another chance at Kansas, and I need a big bird bad for 2 contests.

Mottz 05-12-2011 08:18 PM

Yeah, I'm planning on heading out this weekend. Plus I may be sitting good on some future hunting land. We are putting a basement under a house right now for a farmers mother. Been doin some chattin with the son and he said they farm about 3000 acres. Talked turkey and he said this morning he had a bunch of birds in his front yard. And that they roost in the trees behind his house. So I'm gonna do some research on the plat map and maybe try and get a few more spots to hunt. He sounds like a pretty easy going guy so for now my hopes are high.

j76 05-13-2011 05:18 AM

Kelly, that sounds like it would be a pretty cool vacation to me!! Hope it all comes together for ya!

Iowa, The weather just plain sucks this yr!!! Eaven up here think we had about 3 descent days all turkey season, now every time i plan to do something i get rained out! April showers bring May flowers my a%$!!! More like April snowstorms bring May torrential downpours!!! Good luck with Kansas!

Mottz, that sounds like it could be a really sweet setup!! Nothing better than having some new hunting grounds fall in yer lap!! Thats one thing i'm always on the hunt for!! Good luck this weekend!

AGREE!

Shut my alarm off this morning after hearing the wind. This weather is making me nuts. Wednesday we had record high of 95 and right now its 47 and windy. Tomorrow the high is 61 and breezy. So I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow morning. I need a break from constantly working!!!

Good luck. Tomorrow is last day for me to fill my last Iowa tag, and if the weather was decent I might try to skip out of work, but more cold rain all morning is being predicted. It was in the fricken 40's this morning.

Good luck to both of ya. I hear ya about the weather. Its still in the dang 50's here and the wind is blowin in the 30's.

Work canceled the OT right at the last minute but too late for me to find someone to watch the kids so still no Kansas..lol It is just one thing after another. I'm fixin to take the kids out to do a little crappie fishin so maybe their luck will be better than mine.

Mottz 05-14-2011 08:10 PM

Well, I'm going to find out how this works out tomorrow. Wifes mom came over today and during some conversation, I mentioned that I needed to stop working on the addition and get out and do some turkey hunting. After that chat was over, the wife says, you realize tomorrow is our 12 years:eek::hit: But she didn't say that I couldn't go:biggrin:

kellyguinn 05-15-2011 08:04 AM

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOTTZ.

You can aways offer to take her along..lol

Mottz 05-15-2011 09:51 AM

Thanks kelly!! Well it was very unproductive today. Cold and windy and the birds weren't making a sound and staying in the cover. They were roosted where I wanted them but they flew the other way. Hoping it changes for next weekend. Everything is starting to get really filled in so I hope they come out into the open.

j76 05-16-2011 05:24 AM

Well, at least you were able to get out and give it a shot Mottz, on your anniversary no less!!! Dang man, thats brave!!! Our anniversary was Friday, i did manage to get out and do some walleye fishing, but it was after dark, an expensive dinner and some jewelery!! Thought i was pushin MY luck with that one!!

So is Mottz the only one left?
Kellyguinn it sounds like your Kans/Neb trip is out right? Hope you can put it together for next yr, sounds like it would be a good one!
Jay are you goin back to Kans or are ya hangin it up? Either way, thanks for all the help this season for the team!! Great Job!

Sounds like i'm down to my last week befor goin back to work, so i'm gonna try to cut, split and stack as much wood as i can this week. Hate it when bow season is closin in and i'm still out cuttin fire wood!! Don't like any distractions come that time of yr!!

Iowa Jaybird 05-16-2011 06:30 AM

Kansas is a maybe, but a strong maybe. I've healed up from the beating I took this year from 2 bad falls, Poison Oak, unknown Florida infection issue on my head from running into a limb with my head in the dark, 2 Tick bites, barbwire cut on my hand, numerous thorn issues that have worked their way out, and the physical issue with my legs.

zubba 05-16-2011 08:50 AM

Iowa season is over. The bad news is I didn't make it out turkey hunting again. The good news is I shot pretty good at the archery tournament....lol.

Still gotta be happy putting my tag on an Iowa Gobbler.

Mottz 05-16-2011 10:55 AM

Been wondering why I haven't seen any toms around. Think I found the answer while checking cams.

kellyguinn 05-16-2011 01:44 PM

Dang Mottz. Looks like you'll have a bunch of 2 year olds come next year. Its allways good to see a good hatch.

Mottz 05-16-2011 04:50 PM

That is a bonus, for next year. But I want a big ole tom this year. I still want to see us teammates again next year. We've claimed the views and replies on our team thread so far and we are just that close to getting ahead in the contest. I just don't want to be the guy that has had the longest season of all of us and couldn't get it done.

If you were the guy with the longest season and you were not eaven tryin to get it done that would be different. But you have been givin it one hell of an effort Mottz! Plus you have gotten a bird already, hope you don't feel too much pressure and your still havin fun with it! It's gotta be tough with a family and all you have goin on to make the time to get out there, I know i sure couldn't do it right now!!

Thats a cool trail cam pic!!! And it reminds me, i've got 2 cams out right now that i haven't checked since the 24th of April!!! I should prob go pull them things one of these days!!!!

kellyguinn 05-18-2011 05:07 PM

Well, looks like I am officially done for the season. Got told to work again this weekend. I really enjoyed being on the team with all yall and hope to be doin it again next spring with ya. We all need to keep in touch on here and if ya ever want to come to Oklahoma for a hunt I may not have the private land lined up but I do have some excellent public that I would be happy to point ya in the right direction. I'll probably (will) be there myself for all 3 deer seasons and both turkey seasons. If the birds are there like they were this year I will get one with the bow in October.

If things go good I'm gonna have to get the bow out and go practice on a hog before the deer season gets here.

Good luck to you guys still out there.

zubba 05-19-2011 06:04 AM

Hey Kelly,
I was just down in Oklahoma in March hunting hogs. We were in Gracemont, which is about 10 minutes from Anadarko. We had a good time and killed some good hogs. Those things are more skiddish that I thought. I was a good time though. Are you in the Anadarko area?

Im just east of there about 45 min to 1 hour or so down I-40. I live in Moore but would be hunting them more than likely in the Pauls Valley area.

I think the hogs are pretty much starting to take over the whole state. I have even seen them in a pretty good size neighborhood. I havn't been hunting them in quite a while but I'm looking forward to it. Its a pay to access land but it is supposed to be loaded.

j76 05-19-2011 08:01 PM

I've always wanted to try hog hunting. Sounds like a fun way to get some groceries!!! Is there a season in OK. or is it yr round?

kellyguinn 05-20-2011 02:10 PM

Its year round here. The only regs are that during a big game season you are only allowed to hunt with what is in season at that time and have the appropriate tags for that season. Ex. deer gun, deer archery.

Some of the public lands have there own set of regulations but most follow the state regs.

If you get down by the red river they are supposed to be everywhere. I haven't been down there yet but hope to in the future. Plus I could always hit the striper's at Lake Texhoma. :)

Mottz 05-21-2011 06:33 PM

Here I go again. Gonna give it another shot in the morning. My neighbor came home this afternoon with a nice tom. He tried the fan in front of the face and walked towards it and it came running right at him. Still have next weekend then I'll be ready to hang it up. Hope I can say that after tomorrow!

Good luck. I'm still planning on hitting Kansas for a 3 day hunt, but I'm not as enthuastically motivated as the beginning of the season. If it wasn't for the 2 contests I'm in, I would probably go fishing instead. With still a shot for first here, and a good chance for 3rd in my other contest, I need to get out there, especially since about any Tom would be an upgrade on my 56. I've spent so much cash the last 30 days, that I should stay home, but at 64, there won't be much longer that staying home is going to be physically forced on me. Live your life while you can has always been my motto.
