Good job bull!!
Thats two for us this year, hopefully we can keep it up. |
Well, me and a buddy passed on some jakes this morning, and looking back I wish I had taken one. Not because I want to get on the board with it, but because I want some fried turkey with Cracker Girl seasoning! Cannot wait for that! And there ain't no better eating than a good jake!
|
Well team my season starts this saturday :) got several mature birds scouted out and hopefully one makes the mistake and visits within 40 yards of my blind haha
Cant wait, the birds are fired up:biggrin: |

Well team I feel like a junkie looking for a fix. The birds have been getting all worked up the last few days. Today I was out working on the mower. I could hear 4 toms it was surround sound. I can't wait for saturday. Good luck to all.

Got my Best Gobbler yet !!
Tue. I checked out the two areas I wanted to for Rios and saw no sign so I headed home for 5 hrs sleep and headed out for some Merriam's in a new area I had not been in but believed it held some turkeys.
I arrived and parked my truck at 730 am and to the believed roost area about 815am. I thought there was a good chance of finding a gobbler still strutting and soon I found a hen yelping so I followed her hoping she had a tom with her and shortly I found him strutting for her. I stayed mostly out of sight following what I found was a small flock consisting of 1 big gobbler 1 smaller gobbler several jakes and at least 3 hens. I was busted once by the jakes but I froze and they never sounded the alarm, I was waiting to get ahead of them but never could, I challenged the hen but she never came. They went up a mountain and I set up by another roost area, they came down but not to me so when they headed into some trees I ran around out of sight and about 125 yards closer so when they came out I could get a shot. I got my shot when they all came out of the trees and took him down at 40 yards. Merriam 19 lbs Beard 9 in Spurs 1/2 in ![]() |

I love the pot call Idea and would like to pitch in for shipping + It would be great to use it in the future and bring my team members along. In Colorado we don't have the large number of turkeys that other states do although our numbers are growing every year and this year most of our draw only units opened to over the counter units. We can kill one bearded turkey with a limited license(draw only areas) and one bearded turkey with an over the counter license for none limited areas. It can take years to hunt some limited areas as they take a certain number of points to hunt each area and you get a point each year you don't win the lottery to hunt a limited area, most limited areas are for Rios. |
Are any of you folks on Facebook? Heck maybe we are friends already on there. Look me up sometime and we can come up with ideas for our calls. Name is Adam Spittler. I might be heading to Virginia this weekend for a turkey or 2. I hope! lol

I sent you a request on Facebook, Adam. My name is Jeremy Gargis. I am also welcome to any adds from you all.

Well folks my first day was a bust, not really a bust just didn't bring one home. Had to go to 2 different farms to hear one but finally got on some at about 8 am. Called in 3 longbeards at about 65-70 yards. They seen the decoy and all they wanted to do was strut. They wouldn't commit for nothing. I think I could have killed one but I wanted my wife to shoot first and her 20 guage just won't reach out there that far. Got busted by 1 hen, she flew over the gobblers heads. 30 minutes later they were gobbling again but not interested in coming to a decoy. Man i just knew 1 of them stupid birds would come in for a looksy and get a load to the face. All well get em next time. I get a 4 day weekend to chase, hopefully the rain holds off here in Missouri. Good luck folks

T-Harvester,
Go Get'em! Good luck to you and your wife. |
Good luck Turkey Harvester!
My gobbler wasn't interested in my calling and I couldn't get the hen in either so I stalked em tell I could get a shot not sire it was going to work. You will get em in if not now in a couple of weeks! |
:cool2: Ye-ha just read the contest update the Kee Kee Krew is number 5 and number 6 and I am in first place for species! I am the only hunter with a Merriam on the board LOL

We are still in it! I think my jake wasnt entered for the overall tally.

Hey guys, I have some bad news. I had to take a dog to the vet in an emergency the other night, and it cut severely into my hunting budget for the next month or better. I have vacation scheduled which was supposed to include a turkey hunt in Utah and attending a field trial for my hounds here close to home. Now I have to choose between one of them, and unfortunately, the turkey hunt gets the shaft. I am a major part in actually putting on the field trial, so I can't back down now.
I am not sure what everyone wants to do, so let me know. I can talk to the mods, and we can figure our an alternate, or I can stay and still keep track of scores and root on the rest of the team. I feel bad about this, because I dedicated to doing it, and it just won't work. What say everyone? Thanks, and sorry, Marcial P.S. - Moose I probably forgot to enter the jake in the scoring thread. I will work on that today. |

Sorry about your dog, glad you got it taken care of! Life is what happens when we are trying to turkey hunt! |

Went scouting 3 days this weekend. I found lots of birds for this weekends opener. Watched 13 gobblers and 12 hens this morning. I been watching this guy regularly the last week with my game cameras. Think I have a good chance of tagging him opening morning.

Nice looking bird moose. Also - I looked for the information on your jake, but I could not find any. Did you ever post a picture of it, or just the mature tom. Or am I just blind.
Thanks, Marcial |
Busted one Friday morning, been stuck behind flood waters in south Mo and just now getting to a computer. Haven't scored it yet but it weighed 25 lbs, had a 10 inch beard and a whopping 1 3/8 sprus. It was a dandy. When my wife gets home whe will download the pictures for me and i'll get them posted along with the story. Almost pulled a sort of double, my brother smoked one about 20 minutes later, a 22 1/2 pounder. Pics comeing later.

Turkey's weight:25 lbs. oz.
Spur length Right:1 3/8 in. Left:1 1/4 in. Beard length 10 in. Eastern Your score is 25 + 13.75 + 12.5 + 20 = 71.25 Woke up Friday morning it was foggy, misting, and the wind was blowing. It had just got done storming about 3 hours earlier. The wife was sick in bed, so she didn’t go. My brother and I went to our spot and kinda laughed about the weather. It got about 6:08 and I told him lets make something happen, so I hooted. A turkey gobbled about 80-90 yards straight in front of us. So we set up, in the same spot my wife and I did the first day, put out the decoys and waited. This bird gobbled his freaking head off for 15-20 minutes before pitching down in a small field to our left. It was foggy and I couldn’t see the bird but I could here him strut. Finally he come walking in gobbling every step, stopped when he seen the decoys and began to strut. Crossed under the fence and displayed for the ladies some, then I couldn’t take it no more he got shot in the face. This bird weighed 25 lbs. had a 10 inch beard and had a whopping 1 3/8 rt.spur and 1 11/4 left spur. He was a dandy for sure, and he read and played the script right. After I shot we heard another turkey gobble about 150-200 yards away. So I grabbed my bird, tagged it right quick, put it behind the tree we were at and we took off after the other bird for my brother. Grabbed the decoys and went about 50 yards and he gobbled right in our face. Put the decoy about 10 yards to our left, should have stayed where we were, and called . We heard 3 gobbles and they were getting close. 2 lookers and 1 strutter came walking down the edge of the field, walked on feathers of the one I killed, and seen the decoy. That was it they came in and my brother smoked a 22 ½ pounder had a 9 ¼ inch beard and 1 inch spurs. By far the absolute best turkey hunt I think I’ve ever been on and done it with my little brother. |
Way to go! Awesome bird, man!
These stinkin' birds are just not acting like they normally do this year. I have generally tagged out by this time, and have been skunked so far! Still have a little over a week to get it done, and will be in the woods every opportunity that I have. Tough, though. They aren't gobbling, they aren't in their normal areas and have abandoned some strut zones I observed them in during pre-season. From the scouting success I had, I had very good feelings leading up to the season, but they just simply are not hanging around there anymore. I by no means plan to be skunked...I will do everything that I can to score! Weather looks less than fortunate for most of the remainder of the season, but I will be braving the conditions, and hopefully will soon be posting some pics of my own! Best wishes for continued success, KREW!!! |
Saweet nice bird! :)
