I'm here, I will be hunting KY and Tn. I have been getting some trail cam pics of some big ones.

shed33 08-18-2009 09:22 PM

Checking in and ready to roll. From Northern Idaho and will be hunting Idaho and Iowa this season. Looking forward to getting to know u all!

Kamil 08-18-2009 09:38 PM

checking in. I will be hunting 2 days a week until feb 15th. Have some good prospects in the cross hairs.

DowningAir 08-19-2009 02:29 AM

I'm in. I hunt mainly in Mid Michigan but will be splitting time with a property a little further north as well. Looking forward to getting back out there!

Planter 08-19-2009 04:04 AM

Checking in.. It's months before I can hunt here in Ma but the stand tending is going well and the broadheads are sharp.

Good luck to everybody and lets have some fun.

firemedic_79 08-19-2009 07:51 AM

60% checked in.

Downing-Where are you at in central MI? I used to live in Flushing (suburb of Flint) and still have a half-brother there. His side of the family has a farm in Remus that he hunts. I am considering going up in late October if his schedule allows him to get away.

jjones 08-19-2009 08:06 AM

Just got back from checking the trail cams and had some giants on there.

SouthernMDArcherer 08-19-2009 12:46 PM

Checking in. Looking forward to this season. Last year I got a grand total of 7 hunts in, work kept me out of the woods. This year I made sure that would not happen. Vacation time saved up and ready to go.

Oh, and I am the boss, so leaving work early or simply taking off to hunt is always a viable option)))

Well come on jjones...Don't hold out on us, let's see some pics.

jjones 08-19-2009 04:39 PM

Here are the one's I'm after, come on Sept. 5th

firemedic_79 08-19-2009 05:33 PM

Very nice jjones! Those are some great trophies. It is nice to see them posing in the daylight and just not after dark. Archery opens 9/5 in Kentucky? Seasons seem to be getting longer and longer. I was looking at Arkansas last week and the season there is 10/1-2/28. Furthermore, non-resident tags were pretty nice- entire season was $300 and included 4 deer, 4 turkey and a bear. I'm thinking I may try to put a group hunt together for next season.

I'm in Clinton County, a little west of St. Johns. I'm familiar with Remus as my northern property is at the family farm in Mt. Pleasant. Not exactly "northern" in Michigan standards but north of home for me. Let me know if you get to make a trip up there!

Planter 08-20-2009 04:04 AM

Lordy JJ!! That's a Pile-O-Meat hanging around in front of your Cam. I would sell my kids to see that many deer of that caliber in 10 seasons never mind one. Stick one for the team bud and see you guys in the woods.

Wow! Small world...your only about an hour away on M-21. Actually, I was there last Thursday and Friday to get a pop-up camper. When I was a kid my dad used to hunt around Owosso and Grand Rapids.

firemedic_79 08-20-2009 08:25 AM

Anyone have any ideas for a team name?

DowningAir 08-20-2009 09:23 AM

No kidding! Yup, 21 east coast to west coast and you'll run right into St. Johns. If your ever gonna be around the area let me know.

Planter 08-20-2009 01:49 PM

Leave me right out of the team name discussion!!!:confused0024: I actually thing we came in forth last year but after 30 plus years of deer hunting I was on the "ruttin rookies". Talk about a contridiction.. Not only don't I do much rutting any more I'm sure not a rookie. I am looking forward to changing my avatar and see no reason why we can't be the ones to knock the Dark Horses down

I do live in a state with a less than 10% bowhunter success rate but I've shot and entered deer in the contest for the last couple of seasons and I shot bigger deer that just were not my first of the year. I used to kill them in the berkshires but now all my deer fall within 20 miles of Boston.

I DID pass on deer last season but I became weak and settled for a young deer. I'm not sorry at all but this year I hope to arrow a neat piebald doe I've been watching grow older as wiser as well as a giant 6 pt with the tallest rack I've ever seen. I would even be happy with a decent smallish 8 pt I truly let walk last year. I even counted coup on him by drawing my bow and settling a pin.:D

I'm pumped and could be in the woods tommorrow but I have months to wait.

Rock on guys and I sure hope everyone shows up and let's be an active team. :happy0001:

shed33 08-21-2009 07:57 PM

Jjones, great bucks on those trail cameras! Very impressive deer, especially that tall tined hammer.

10 days till I start hunting here.

Team Names.. leave that up to all you young guys, I've been doing this contest since 04 .. We won it in 05..and I made some great friends from that team, some of those guys and I still travel across the country and hunt together these days. Should be a lot of fun fellas, best of luck to everyone!

jag-mag 08-22-2009 07:56 AM

This is jag-mag checking in. Had some problems with the puter had IT cleaned up, good to go know.

SouthernMDArcherer 08-22-2009 12:10 PM

name......Buttonbuck busters......naw i,m kidding. I have been bow hunting for over 30 years and have no idea what to call ourselves. I guess throw a few names out there and we can vote on what we want.

Dave

jag-mag 08-22-2009 12:57 PM

How about something simple like TEAM BIG SHOOTERS, just a suggestion . How you guys doing? are you ready to rumble

jjones 08-22-2009 04:07 PM

Team Lights Out?

jag-mag 08-22-2009 07:05 PM

Came up with a few more names, Meat managers, String yankers,
Tree riders, Bone sweepers, Buck controllers.

shed33 08-22-2009 09:25 PM

"Lights Out" I like that JJ

SouthernMDArcherer 08-23-2009 03:32 AM

Or how about we use the name of my new bow................."Done deal". Whatever you guys decide is fine with me.

man I want to go check my trail cameras today but its only been a little over a week since I did last time... making myself wait till next weekend! So far here is who has made my hitlist, starting with Sledgehammer (7x7 with little dropper) hvy4 (wont score great but still a shooter) Kicker (main fram 5x5 with that kicker at the base) Moose, (probably the oldest buck on my trail cameras) and finally A-frame (big hvy 4x5 walking away in the pix)

BOW HNT 08-23-2009 07:09 AM

Troy - they all look great to me! Best of luck getting one ealry Bro!

jjones 08-23-2009 02:32 PM

We also need to pick a captain. My vote is for firemedic if he is up for it.

firemedic_79 08-23-2009 05:08 PM

Welcome Jag-mag.

Sorry I vanished for a couple days. I am a member of a brand new Whitetails Unlimited chapter and we had our 1st fundraising banquet last night. We had a great turnout and raised a lot of money. We are waiting for a final total, but we may have had the best fundraiser in Missouri our first time out.

Went out to one of my hunting farms today. I may have some problems this year...hogs - EVERYWHERE! The USDA has hired a guy to trap and kill them. He trapped 20 last week on the neighbors farm. He has another 15-20 on camera this week on our hunting land. They ripped up the ground under my primary stand. They are destroying every bit of food and foodplot in the area.

On the bright side we did see deer. The owner said he is seeing them all over. So that is good news.

If the team would like me to be the team captain, I would be happy to represent us. On the other hand, if anyone is wanting to be the team capt...please speak up.

firemedic_79 08-23-2009 07:39 PM

Shed33- I would be all over Sledgehammer and Moose. I would love to see follow-up pics of Moose when he fully developed. Is he palmated? I have been after a drop-tine buck for several years. I had a double drop-tine buck in an area I was hunting a couple years ago and was bummed when I found out he got smoked by a car.

I live on 20 acres and my neighbor has 25. We had a big 12pt living on our property last year, but had some problems with trespassing and camera theft. I have some cameras out to try to catch a pic of him, hopefully they won't disappear too.

A few name possibilities: Adrenalin Archers, Honeyhole Havoc, Honeyhole Hunters.

SouthernMDArcherer 08-24-2009 04:05 AM

I am good with fireMedic being the team captain. Now that we have that settled, let's pick a name.

Dave S.

Planter 08-24-2009 05:28 AM

Medic is fine with me and I doubt there will be a lot of compitition for that duty.

It looks like you guys got some nice deer ear marked for harvest and thats a great start to the season. :)

Were still short a couple team members I guess but it happenes every year. Guys sign up and then never show up or they show up once or twice and are never heard from again.:confused0024:

jjones 08-24-2009 05:44 AM

Yeah both guy's were last online on 8/17/09 so they should have seen what team they were on then.

Now we have to pick a name so just post what you want to vote for.
I vote for "Team Light's Out"

DowningAir 08-24-2009 07:11 AM

Medic sounds like a fine choice to me.

'Lights Out' sounds like a good name. No arguments from me.

firemedic_79 08-24-2009 12:52 PM

Team Lights Out is fine with me. I will try sending our 2 missing members another PM.

firemedic_79 08-24-2009 01:01 PM

PM's sent. I missed out on the contest last year. Anyone know which members make the avatars?

SouthernMDArcherer 08-24-2009 01:09 PM

My wife is good at making avatars. Let me ask her to give it a shot.

Dave

jag-mag 08-24-2009 01:55 PM

team lights out sounds good to me.

Planter 08-25-2009 09:42 AM

"Lights Out" sounds good to me!:s1: It will give me great pleasure while I'm strapped in my tree napping.
